Another good backpacking cookbook is Gretchen McHugh's Hungry Hiker's Book of Good Cooking.

Just spent the the weekend in Big Bend NP, cooking over a fire ain't a joke. Cast iron helps but don't try to go gourmet on any of your dishes. Keep it simple. These are some great ideas that I would have found helpful over the weekend. I'll keep them in mind for next time.

Thanks for the video! To the topic of backpacking cooking, I like to peruse a book my wife has, "The Well Fed Backpacker." It's pretty dated, but it's a good source of ideas, even if you don't end up using any of the recipes verbatim. There's even tips on packing for longer expeditions. Looks like it's available on Amazon.

Awesome, I'd love to see a backpacking version too. MREs are scary business.
