Oooh, this was one I suggested! I knew they'd like it, since it can be made like this, essentially curry-fashion (meat and veg cut up together in sauce). Also popular as a sandwich on a long Italian bread roll, using whole sausage, essentially hot dog-fashion. If you use red and green peppers and white onions, you have the colors of the Italian flag.🇮🇹

I have been to the Feast of San Gennaro, in Little Italy, which is in lower Manhattan, New York City (held there nearly every September since 1926)...and have enjoyed the sausage and pepper sandwiches served at street stands there (among other great food on the street and in restaurants all around). A great Italian-American and New York tradition, brought over from Naples, Italy. (Saint Gennaro is the patron saint of Naples.) The food also came over with Italian immigrants who settled in the area in the early 20th century. My own family roots actually come through Little Italy during that same time period, circa 1900.🇮🇹🇺🇲
