Plus, the British are really into ground-up meat dishes (think sausages etc.). So it just made sense to think it was an English dish. But I just learned that it's actually an American dish! James Salisbury was an American physician in 1800s who advocated a meat-centered diet. And Salisbury Steak has been a common dish in the USA since 1897!
