Like the comments are saying meal sizes are probably smaller to account for individuals and or smaller families.

I have 5 and 9 qt Le Crueset pans. I cook a lot and feel the same way about cooking pasta- 5 qt is a shade too small. I use the 5 qt for braising meats and it usually works fine. The 9 qt I use for pasta and making stock or bone broth. Its great to have both pans if you can afford it.

I cook for one or two, these pots are the perfect size.
The average US household is 2.5 people.
Now, I don’t know if that’s the average size of households who cook for themselves, or if —as I sometimes do— folks in smaller households prepare lots and eat leftovers, but honestly, I usually just want two to four servings of something, and those big pots are too big.

This would be perfect for a single person since they are cooking for one. I don't need anything bigger as it is too heavy to lift and rarely make a pound.
