I'm on my 3rd one in 12 years and it's only gone from wooden side table to metal. The charcoal dumping tray and the bottom of the grill rusts out within a few years in every one. Make that a part of your redesign.

Also you need to reseason the barrel to stop rust.
I have had mine over 20 years and NO rust.
I replaced the ashtray and put small cast iron grates right on top of the ashtray and DUMP the ashes every time I grill.
