I agree in simple dishes I use it because I can tell it gives subtle complexity. However, in dishes with all kinds of bold flavors adding a bay leaf or two is a waste of money. At that point it’s a culinary placebo.

Got a bay /laurel tree next to my kitchen. Fresh bay leaves are amazing! Complex cinnamon-like scent. Much better than dried ones.

Ahh beef stew or pea soup would not be the same without em! I always add 4-5 Bay leaves to the pot! I agree that Turkish Bay Leaves taste and smell great! Cook on!

Try a fresh bay leaf. You can keep them for a year and they have more flavor than the ones from the store. Who knows how old they really are😂

Learned from my mom and still use bayleaves a lot. I love the flavor it impairs in soups and bechamel especially. It is really difficult to find a bay tree in my area and wish I had one.
