I bought a different style of sponge holder. It looks a bit like the over the faucet models, but instead of a loop at the top, the wire is welded to a back plate. The back plate is attached to the sink by a piece of double stick foam. I bought it on the Big Online Shopping Site, I don't remember the vendor.

Before installing I carefully thought about placement, then washed, rinsed and dried that part of my sink completely. That was over 4 years ago ... not only hasn't it budged, but the area around it looks very clean. The wire is stainless steel, it still looks great.

When I do need to remove it, I expect I'll need a razor blade and strong chemicals to remove the glue. That does not scare me ... until then, the sponge holder is doing its job perfectly.

I just bought a new sponge holder this week, a flexible rubber one from Walmart, one of the first ones shown. Yes, in hangs down into the sink, but it is flexible, not rigidly attached, so when you bump it, you don't knock it off, as you do with the suction cup types..which also hang down into the sink!! The flexible rubber hanging around the faucet is easy enough to move out of the way when you need the extra space.

I bought the SimpleHuman one a while back and it gets nasty with mold in surprising short order. Any and all suction cups that I have used, well, suck, and detach after a while so never buying one of those. Currently use a Silicone Sponge Holder that sits on above and drains into the sink. It's ok at best as it gets dirty both above and below it.

No idea why my comment from yesterday was removed. Anyway, the OXO Good grips Stainless countertop model is far better than any suction cup model as it resides on the countertop near your faucet where few things fit and it is never in your sink basin where it would be knocked around and fall off.
