1957 French's MUSTARD BREAD recipe – I tried it! and it was…something.

When this 1957 French’s ad showed up on my Pinterest feed, I just had to give it a try. It was…something. Let’s just say I don’t have to try it again!

Bread Knife:
Teeny Tiny sheet tray:

MUSTARD BREAD
1 small loaf of French or Italian bread
1/4c softened butter
1/2c chopped sweet or green onions
2Tbsp parsley flakes (or chopped fresh parsley)
2Tbsp yellow mustard
2Tbsp sesame seeds or poppy see

Cream butter, blend in onion and parsley. Split bread loaf long way and spread with butter mixture. Spread with mustard and top with sesame or poppy seeds. Bake in a 350 oven for 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve immediately.

  1. This was worth it for the makeup guru mustard bread moment. I mean, I like mustard, I like parsley, I like green onions, I like bread… but I also like roller coasters and cocktails… doesn't mean they should go together! I have a feeling you're right, if you created a single whole sauce with some seasoning, might be… something else! Thanks for this Anna!

  2. Also, I can see this as the base for a canapé. Mix it all together with some salt, pepper, and maybe a touch of garlic, spread on bread rounds or squares and bake, then top with thin sliced ham or roast beef.

  3. I do love finding vintage recipes online, as well as collecting vintage cookbooks. 😊 I've never been a huge fan of mustard, but the video looked intriguing! Glad YOU tried it first!!! If I put mustard on bread, I think I'll stick with hot pretzels! But thanks for doing the experiment — you never know till you try, right! Have a terrific day! 😺💕🐾

  4. Hi Anna, watching your videos I just want to make vintage recipes after watching you. You do a great job talking to us all though and I don't think I have the knack for that. I am glad you have a niche and you are good at it too boot. I would so try this yellow goodness cause I love mustard but not sure about it as well at same time. Salt would be nice yes salted butter. If you try again let us know. HAHA I want to try… is there something wrong with me lol
