  1. My mama being Ukrainian I was very fortunate to have incredible foods growing up and me now being a fabulous cook cause mama taught me I have not tried this before and looking forward to making this soon. Food is memories isn't it. Thank you Tatyana you are fantastic.

  2. My Ukrainian mama, Jaroslava (God rest her beautiful soul), made something very similar to this recipe (often) when I was young (especially during financially difficult times, as this was very economical when feeding a large family). The only major differences were that she made her homemade noodles or dumplings to serve it over, and it clearly had a bit more vegetables in it as well. She made it quite often, and it was just one of her many money-saving dishes that became favorites for us while growing up. Today, I use my slow cooker to make my version of this delicious Ukrainian meal and prefer serving it over rice or extra-wide (lightly buttered & seasoned) egg noodles.
