Good morning! ☀️ I started drinking a green smoothie years ago solely because I knew they were healthy for me. Thankfully with time I started to really enjoy them and loved the way they made me feel. By no means do you have to use what I put in mine. To this day, I continue to rotate what I put in my green smoothies depending on how I feel, what I have on hand, and what taste I’m after. A great beginner one would be water, spinach, banana, lemon, and frozen mango. Or maybe water, spinach, apple, banana, lemon, ginger, and an herb like parsley. I have actual recipes on my blog.
Recently I’ve been having a bowl of fruit alongside it for breakfast, so I put less fruit in the smoothie. I’ve also really been enjoying the taste of mostly spinach, a frozen banana, lemon, & my powders. I go in spurts.
As for powders. Spirulina powder is my #1. I think of it as a multi-vitamin and a great source of iron & protein. Barley grass juice powder is another superfood powder that is often in the mix. It’s loaded with nutrients and promotes heart health. Amla powder is high in antioxidants, Vitamin C, helps with digestive health heart health, hair growth, and so much more. Vitamin C helps our bodies absorb more iron from iron rich sources like spirulina powder and greens, which is another reason I add in Amla powder and lemon to green smoothies. Creatine is a newer one I’ve been adding in –mainly for my husband, but since making one blender is easier, I also get it. It’s great for me too though. It helps build muscle and balance hormones. I’ll sometimes add in flax or chia seed if I don’t think I’ll be having one of them later in the day.

If you’ve been wanting to start eating healthier but don’t know where to start, starting with breakfast helped me. Drink a green smoothie most days/every day for two weeks or so and I’m guessing you’ll start to feel an energy shift. Starting the day on a healthier note helps motivate us to start making healthier choices the rest of the day. Maybe not right away, but it comes with time. As always don’t get stuck on perfection. Consistency is what’s key to making a healthy lifestyle both sustainable and enjoyable.
