It’s like asking, what’s the perfect motorcycle, or kayak, or knife, or surfboard…. Where are you riding? Dirt roads? Highways? PCH? Surfing 3’ Malibu or 10’ Sunset? Knife? Opening boxes or butchering a whole hog? As usual, David has nailed…….as usual….
I don’t agree. A griddle is so easy to clean and keep the rust off. We use it year round under a covered patio and still use a piece off plywood in case a mouse climbs up and under the cover
Thanks David, well done
My RT-590 gets up to 700*, and with grillgrates I get just as good, if not a better sear than with a weber genesis.
Great series intro David and Melissa.
The Yoder YS640s you can grill over direct flame. You should get one of these and review it.
No Masterbuilt?
Great overview ….. My wildfire gaser, primo Xl, Gmg peak prime, 2.0 , Keveri SS, Weber 26 venom, OCP over/under, Refurbished Smokemaster stick, Hasty Bake Gourmet. I had the huntsman wasn’t a fan I can now say I’m done with my Pit…
whoa, whoa, whoa………. hey there,,,,,,,,, come on How 'bout Vertical Charcoal Grills????
When I get my new home, I'm going Weber Searwood XL and Weber Slate 36. Will also have a SNS travel kettle.
great review, I'd have liked to see the totals of your analysis at the end to see what scored highest overall. I cooked with gas grills for years and they are like cooking on a gas stove. I've cooked on Weber charcoal grills and struggled to control the temperature and I currently like my Kamado because it seems to be the best compromise. But what are your total scores?
Gas grills are easy to use until you get a bunch of grease in the bottom of the grill and you either clean it or get a grease fire. I would rather spend a couple of minutes cleaning a Weber kettle every time I use it, rather than dealing with grease in a gas grill.
It would be fair if you considered the Masterbuilt gravity series, especially the newer models.
Will we ever see the Masterbuilt gravity series tested? That new 1150 is a versatile cooker for sure.
My barrel smoker and weber kettle are my go-tos. I also have a propain smoker that I added a cold smoker to for kielbasa and cold smoked everything else.
i like this channel – much information, deep dive into the subject, good notes and no forced opinion. well done
If you have the space get several. Eating is one of life's great things to do. Over time get different ones to do things to their strong points. I have a Weber 4 burner gas grill with griddle insert, a Weber 22" charcoal, XL Big Green Egg, Masterbuilt 1050 gravity feed, Campchef 36" pellet smoker with the sidekick option, and a 3 burner Campchef griddle. Only thing left is a stick burner offset.
On gas and electric grills put a wire mesh over the burners then put a bed of lava rocks on it.
Keeping it clean is another factor to consider
I know the point of this was use case specific, but it would’ve been handy to have a recap of all the point totals at the end in one table, just to see an overall point ranking to use as another data point in knowing what to buy.
You have always mentioned price point when testing the products you buy and compare. No disclaimer as such on this video. Why not? I suppose you know why I’m asking 😊
Kamado
Especially the Webber summit
I have a OKJ Bronco smoker, works great, Weber gas grill and a Weber Kettle, all do different things good, but I have to say my Weber kettle is my go-to for a lot of different grilling cooks.
Caveat to pellet smokers and searing: All of my Recteqs get hot enough to sear. Especially the Bullseyes.
