How To Make a Simple Panettone | Classic Italian Christmas Bread Recipe

Panettone is an Italian Christmas bread. This version is quite simple and basic in comparison to the real deal. Although we are using a preferment, the proper one is made with sourdough and fermented for much longer. Nevertheless, this is a decent panettone. It is sweet, soft, and fragrant and quite simple to make. I will make a video on the proper one next Christmas so you can choose which one is best for you.

  2. In Brazil, where I am from, it's very traditional to eat panettone in christmas season, but it's usually industrialized. Looking forward to make this at home this year!

Actually, we also have a variation called chocottone (I don't know if the other countries also have it), which replaces the fruits with chocolate drops. This is the one I am going to make!

  3. Charlie, I'm going to attempt your pannetone recipe. I usually knead bread doughs by hand, but I do have a good mixer, and this feels like an occasion to use it. Do you have any guidance on the speeds/times for kneading using a mixer and dough hook?

  4. Two thumbs up for this video, Charlie! I'm not sure I've ever eaten panettone. The ones in the store have never really tempted me. But yours looks lovely and soft, and moist. It's also very vibrant, and looks like it's full of Christmas cheer. I bet it smelled amazing!

  5. Nice video, I like the cheat with the preferment instead of the sourdough. One thing for next time: before baking let a thin skin form on top, then slice it two times (like a cross) and place a piece of butter in the middle 🙂
