Doesn’t it hurt the pan to cook tomatoes on cast iron?
best to just avoid cooking tomatoes in cast iron. not worth speculating or worry about whether it will cause a problem depending on how well seasoned your pan is. can also ruin the food, and puts off a weird smell while you're cooking. i'd rather just avoid that possibility. just use a different pan. you can get cheap enamel cast iron, i have an enamel cast iron dutch oven that was $20 at Cost Plus. i can use it on the stove. works great. perfect for situations like this.
He’s so elegant 😊
I have made this several times. It has always turned out great! My whole family loves it!
P.S. I use a well seasoned cat iron skillet (not an enameled one). I have used a skillet with “regular” sided, but have also used a deep skillet, with taller sides, which makes it much less likely that I will spill some on the stovetop (I am not careful enough when stirring).
P.P.S. I have also used penne pasta (penne and ziti are the same diameter. Ziti is cut straight: penne is cut on the bias. Other than that, they are the same.)
Exelente delicia macarrones con salsa de tomate 👍👍👍👍😋😋😋😋👏👏👏👏🇪🇨
Great. Recipes
Simple and delicious
It looks amazing!
We’ve made and eaten this 3 times in 8 days. Between 3 adults it all gets eaten by morning, meaning a someone gets up in the middle of the night to get more!! Lol 😝 it’s a winner winner baked ziti dinner !! No mess and easy peasy! ❤️❤️❤️
Can any kind of pasta be used – like lentil or chickpea based?
I made this last night and it was awesome. One tip don't use the expensive pasta use a cheaper one because it takes less time to cook. I kept adding water to my pan to get it to cook to the doneness I like. Otherwise I recommend it highly.
Baked ziti should have ricotta, ant it to be mixed in.
Not just mozzarella just sitting on the top.
Good tools and equipment create magic, simple. Off course the know how always comes in handy.
I tried this recipe last night, and it came amazing. I was afraid of losing my cast iron seasoning but it worked out fine.
It is fantastic😍😍😍
AJ Soprano would approve.
Unfortunately, I had to pass down my favorite cast iron to our youngest. It's just too heavy for me to handle these days.
But, this recipe does look GOOD!
Growing old ain't for sissies.
Hi, can you tell me, was the inner pan also enamelled?
Great, another video that you guys re-uploaded. This video came out 2 months ago and now they are uploading it a 2nd time pretending it's new. The last 4 or 5 videos are just old uploads being uploaded again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSlBVCbgFhE
Can't wait to make this. Thanks
What about ricotta? Looks good but I would add ricotta when I added the other cheeses. Also some Italian seasoning. Not alot of seasonings in this original version. Seems like it would be kinda bland.
Looks delicious. Question: I've used this exact sauce as a simple pasta sauce before. It's fresh and awesome. But I always get lots and lots of little tomato-skin tubes. I cook grapes tomatoes in very hot oil. Any recommendations? (I do actually see some skins here and there in your pan on second viewing.)
If you think making baked ziti is a time consuming recipe?

WHATSDAMATTERWIDYOU!?!?
Yes can't wait to try thanks 😊 so much for sharing have a wonderful blessed day today in our Lord GOD and savor JESUS Christ bye 💖💕
I didn’t think you could cook tomatoes in cast iron because of the acidity in the tomatoes. ?
I just made this. I added cooked some broken up italian sausage, set them to the side and then put the tomatoes in. Recombined everything right before the oven. It was great. Wife loved it.
Great looking recipe Keith! Just wondering, what's the contraption above your stove top? A water outlet?
What kind of cast iron skillet are you using?
How nice is Keith’s kitchen?
And the ziti doesn’t look bad either 😉
Just a reminder to reseason your cast iron after doing anything like this… the acid in the tomatoes will break the seasoning down to nothing. I'm surprised the host didn't mention this.
Small meal, but big project.. 😉
I prefer ziti out of pasta
This is a great recipe 👍
I made this last night and it was delicious and simple. Everyone loved it. Tysm.
Don’t the acidic tomatoes hurt the pan’s seasoning?
Can this process work with gluten-free pasta? I love you all at America's Test Kitchen!
❣️❣️❣️" Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE. The word itself says 'I M POSSIBLE!" ❣️❣️❣️
YUM. I love pasta and this looks delicious! 🤤
Yum, yum. Now I need to plant some grape tomatoes, for summer! Maybe over winter I will replace with a can of fire roasted tomatoes? Add some Italian sausage, and Its perfect!
I'm afraid to use my cast iron with tomatoes. This won't damage the seasoning?
Please stop being so elitist. Seriously? Ziti? Make real food for real people. Don't be so dumb
"teaspoon of salt" you need to specify the type of salt
😍😍😍😍
Yum…🙏
