Which Vegan Chicken Nuggets Taste Better Than the Real Thing? | America’s Test Kitchen
Today, Julia Collin Davison joins Jack Bishop to taste test vegan (and vegetarian) chicken nuggets to see which come close to surpassing the real thing. Assessing texture, flavor, and umami flavor, Julia tastes her way through the full lineup and is surprised by how her favorites did against those of our reviewers.

Vegan here thank you so much. Some or more are yucky. A couple are ok. A lot of sauce helps.
I clocked Gardein right away. I don't like those either. Ever since the company was sold their products have gone down hill. They used to have a HUGE variety of products. My favorites that they discontinued were the meatloaf, buffalo wings, beef tips, and the szechuan beef. I miss what Gardein used to be. Sad. 🙁🫤 Impossible chicken nuggs are my favorite! 😋
Why is the word chicken used to describe this non-meat product. Please stop!
Thanks for doing this taste test. Personally, I find Impossible products too 'meaty' for me, but I am the type who I would take tofu over fish or the more realistic substitutions any day. My favorite meatless nugget is Morningstar buffalo wings 🤤
Modern life sucks – what on earth have we done to ourselves? Just no, to all of it, not even after the apocalypse.
I used to detest chicken nuggets. I have now been vegan for several years and I love the Impossible nuggets; go figure.
I'm not vegan, but I did try the Impossible Nuggets and thought the same thing. They were actually quite tasty.
Why would a vegan want something that tasted like a chicken nugget?
I didn't see Beyond Nuggets. Morningstar is great and very available.
Quorn and Impossible are good and I'm not a vegetarian. I have two girls that are so I have tried them all at some point.
I'm not even a full veggie eater (but I love Morningstar) – the garbage that is sold as regular chicken fried nuggets/fingers/patties has become a chemical glop that is really awful IMO
I love how the vegan-haters always exhibit, in their comments, plant-based intelligence. Perfect thinking — for a turnip.
"No thats terrible…." 😂
There is a twisted irony to trying to emulate a chicken nugget. But regardless, I love the impossible nuggets and I make them with some sauce and white cheese, making mini parmesan snacks,
Julia trying the icky nugget is my new favorite meme.
None, zero. Zilch, nada, Nein! There cleared it up for everyone.
Quorn by far the best!
None. Next question.
Vegan nuggets are pretty highly processed. To take something like a veg product and make it to resemble meat you need a lot of additives and processes. Ive tried the Impossible products and they aren't bad they just might not be as "healthy" as one would believe.
The Ultimate ones are amazing, this lady has grave mouth
I havent eaten meat in 20 yrs, i was never a big fan of chicken when i did eat meat. But the best "chicken nugget" ive had is the pressed tofu method breaded with cornstarch. I would like to see americas test kitchen do their version of pressed tofu.
I regularly have "breaded vegan chicken" that uses king oyster mushrooms as a stand-in for the chicken, and it is wonderful.
I love the Impossible nuggies. I don't buy chicken nuggets anymore. Delicious.
what a world we live in where highly processed slurry can imitate other foods
i was thinking they need to include the real thing to make the test genuine. then boom, chicken nugget is actaully there and it lost.
I loved they put a trick selection in there, so funny 😂😂😂😂
Thank you for vegan content!
The Impossible brand is all bio-engineered…no thank you!!
Dang. I just bought the Gardein Ultimate Nuggets TODAY! Next time I'll get the Impossible Nuggets. Thanks for the review!
No, no they can't.
Thanks for considering the vegetarians & vegans in this test. I am neither & don’t even like chicken nuggets, but do agree that others should be considered.
Vegans are the militant faction of the vegetarians 😂
Quorn!
TOXIC waste.
ALL VEGAN FOOD TASTES LIKE ALPO!
Yuck!
❤❤❤
The hate and disgust expressed in the comments section of videos like this one is really something to behold. It's somehow always the crowd that demands to have the right to liberty when it comes to their own lives that then demands everyone else live like them.
