Karonda Fruit Harvest! 🍒 Sour & Sweet Recipes From Garden To Table!

A narrow footpath leads from our home down to the tea estate. As I look at it, I can still see the memories of countless journeys made over the years, with thousands of footsteps tracing that path up and down the hill. The few guava bushes still whisper the same gentle breeze they did back then. Though time has flown by like a bird slipping through my fingers, the beauty that captivated me from childhood remains unchanged to this day.
Amidst a cluster of coconut trees, the karamba bush shimmered in a rich crimson glow. As a child, it served as my favourite lipstick, painting my lips with nature’s own colour. Even today, I can still hear my aunt softly humming, “My lap is filled with heaps of ripe karamba fruits…” The memory lingers as vividly as ever.
The fully ripened karamba fruits wore a majestic shade of crimson. Combined with delicate sugar crystals, they became jars of delightful homemade jam, whose unforgettable taste still dances on the tip of my tongue.
The remaining karamba fruits were gently pricked and steeped in sugar syrup. As they slowly drank in its sweetness and turned a brilliant crimson, they sparkled in the pan like a handful of ripe cherries.
To me, they were more than just a delicious treat; they were a simple yet perfect cure, easing the day’s exhaustion for Uncle Sumith and everyone around him.
The rambutan season was quietly coming to an end, yet scattered clusters still clung to the trees among the coconut grove. By a happy coincidence, a spiny soursop joined the basket of rambutans we carried home. Together they became a refreshing drink, while a few swirls of homemade jam traced delicate patterns along the glass, lending it an unexpected touch of artistry.
The gentle floral drizzle that had fallen only half an hour before had already passed. Slowly, ribbons of amber sunlight spilled across the land, bathing the entire landscape in the golden warmth of the evening.
Embrace the nature 🌿
