One way to get smashed!
I would say that you cannot make a traditional, Italian Tiramisu without alcohol, but I'm sure you could make something comparable without alcohol.
The imperial measurements are:
Three egg yolks
2 Tbsp. caster sugar
8oz Marscapone cheese
1-1/4 cups heavy cream
1-1/2 cups strong, cold coffee*
1/4 cup dark rum*
1/4 cup marsala*
30 ladyfingers*
*denotes a measurement that I estimated. This is what I used, and it was perfect.

I bet its delicious but to soft, it will spread all over your plate. If you fold the cream in de mascepone real slow, not a rough as he did. you'll keep more air in your mousse. Than its even better!

@TheWildGiraffe Just use coffee and skip the marsala 🙂 I personally prefer the alcohol version (flavor, obviously not for the booze lol) but for the kiddies I usually just use cold coffee.
okay lets say i wanted to do this dessert without alcohol, crazy i know, but if i wanted to do this for children aswell what would i use to soak the lady fingers
The first kayer of fingers was perfect. The second was a diaaster.
i put cocoa on both layers and coffee in my soft mixture about 2 tblsp but thats my taste. let sit overnight for sure boy this stuff in sweeeeeeeeet. i don't use alcahol at all.
hmmm.. i use marsala with the yolks and sugar, but to each their own!

you don't need alcohol and I have used cream cheese with mine every time. The cheese he uses is too expensive here 😛

im a professional cook an i use the same recepie for a couple of years…you cant get better than that and stay classic
It's a pudding, get over it, it's not about right and wrong… but I hear James Martin speaks very highly of your version.
Looks terrible…and he made it totally wrong. With this consistency he should have served it in a glass with some fruit on the top. If you want to do a traditional tiramisu look elsewhere for a good recipe.
In my opinion alcohol is not necessary. Expecially in tiramisù recipe because, in the original one, in Italy we don't use alcohol.
