  1. Canned sardines are very popular in Greece, too! I suppose all around the Mediterranean. I’m familiar with brands from Greece, France, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, and Japan. The ones found most often in Greece and Cyprus are: with olive oil; with vegetable oil (other than olive oil); spicy, usually with some small red hot chili or peri-peri pepper, either in vegetable oil, either in olive oil; and, with tomato sauce. Others include sauces with capper, olives cut in rings, and lemon. Oregano is also used in some cans, although oregano is more frequently found in canned anchovies
