State fairs have become the site of a novelty fried foods arms race, with vendors clamoring to outdo themselves (and each other) every year. We set out to learn why the adrenaline-seeking foodie in each of us wants to try deep-fried kool-aid at the fair, even if we eat sensibly in our real lives.

Deep fried sweet things are Yuck! Except funnel-cake of course. Typically, I choose the old-time standards, but I have to say deep-fried chicken livers are amazing. I like the ethnic fairs best versus the over-crowded state fairs.

So appropriate timing. Fl state fair opened yesterday. Anything new I will try. The foot long cheese stick and multiple ears of corn are the staple. Did not find the red bean and rice funnel cake booth. 😪
