  1. Great story. I love Tiki. It’s kitch in all the right ways. I don’t intend to take anything away from Smugglers Cove as a bar but how do you talk about tiki in the SF Bay Area and not mention the Tonga Room in the basement of the Fairmont Hotel. It’s been there since 1945 and it is an amazing experience.

  2. Hi, would you do this as a video, instead of a podcast? I detest podcasts, and never listen to them. I'm online with a video screen, podcasts make no sense on You Tube. Thanks! Gave it a thumbs down, as it is not a video, it is audio only.

  3. I’ve always loved the tiki style places. Loved it so much we had our wedding rehearsal dinner at the Blue Hawaii in Nashville. For many reasons, it will always be bright in my my memory, even after nearly 46 years. The restaurant is gone now, but the marriage is going strong. I would love to find an existing tiki place to take my wife for our anniversary. There certainly isn’t one here in Evansville.

  4. Our memories are go back to the Kon Tiki at the Montreal Sheraton which existed between 1958 and 1981. This restauran was, the first of the Kon-Tiki chain owned by Steve Crane. The Kon-Tiki in Cleveland and others in Boston, Dallas, Chicago Portland, OR and Honolulu were part of the same group.

  5. I do kind of wish I was driving while this played, but still, this was a fun and informative listen. And one can never have too much Bridget Lancaster.
    To the people who hate podcasts and only like videos, well, maybe don't listen. Just do something else.
