Our mission is simple: to develop the absolute best recipes for all of your favorite foods. To do this, we test each recipe 30, 40, sometimes as many as 70 times, until we arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most-foolproof recipe.

Each week, the cast of America’s Test Kitchen brings the recipes, testings, and tastings from Cook’s Illustrated magazine to life on our public television series. With more than 2 million viewers per episode, we are the most-watched cooking show on public television.

More than 1.3 million home cooks rely on Cook’s Illustrated and Cook’s Country magazines to provide trusted recipes that work, honest ratings of equipment and supermarket ingredients, and kitchen tips.

  1. Using salt water to prevent browning in apples also work magically. It may be a bit salty but not too much and I like to eat apples with almond butter anyways which is also salty. Apples and almond butter make a snack 👍

  2. I really love this little life hack! I tried it 2 days after I watched this video. I live far from my swim team, and I really love packing apples. Though, they often turn brown when the day ends, which is when I usually eat my apples and you should also consider the fact that right after swimming you get really hungry. And guess what, this tip really works, not only does honey prevent it from turning brown, it adds a little sweet flavor to my apples!

    Thank you very much!

  3. This is great!

I really did not want to soak my pears with lemon juice since it I want to enjoy the mellow sweetness with blue cheese on some canapes I plan on making. I was going to drizzle a wee bit of honey on the assembled snacks anyway so this anti-browning method will work perfectly!
