This is my look at the BBQ-Toro Hibachi Grill, that looks remarkably like the Lodge Sportsman Grill. A few modifications, some Hacks and a recommendation for a Plancha Grill.
Thinking about using a high heat spray paint on the shell of my sportsman grill. Of course not the grill grate itself. Any thoughts?? Is this considered a moral sin??
This is a great cast iron cooker! nice cook!
is it pre seasoned?
Buy Americanโฆ..
Interesting knock off cooker. I do wonder about the quality of the cast iron sometimes from overseas. A lesser quality of cast iron then what Lodge uses can be brittle. But overall that looks good. As to placing foil in the bottom I could see some benefits but I have never thought it was worth it. I am always cleaning and re-seasoning to avoid rust. Always remember to add some vegetable oil after each cook and it will last 100 years. Last thing the hooks were a fun mod. However I suggest everyone keep a dedicated offset of pliers in their bbq tools kit. And of course tongs can work also but the pliers work better. Everyone have a great day ๐ค.
I just use my tongs to open and close the vents and fire door.
where can you get the pick handle and other tool to open and slide vent thanks henry
I'll try thr aluminum liner and drill the holes but I found the lodge lid lifter is good to open the two doors and to manipulate the grate. The 4 in 1 works too.
Hello from Ontario, Canada! New sub from me! Take care!
brillant were can you buy this or the sportsman

Are these still available in the UK?
Looked like a good reproduction of the Lodge.
I really like the hook tool. Great tips and mods. I don't think I ever saw someone using skillets or Dutch Ovens on the sportsman grill, I'm sure it's a common thing, but never seen it before. Nicely Done. Thanks for sharing. ๐.
Poorly designed for outdoors cooking, the food surface is exposed to wind and rain. No lid, no windbreak. Uses a lot of charcoal and scorches food on bottom while I cooked on top and in middle. Sold mine after one campout, fail. Get a small Weber Kettle . Cooks way better, more versatile, less briquettes.
Could just use a fire poker or a lid lifter to keep you away from it, and itโd have kept you from modifying and creating huge rust spots.
Thanks for the review, Dutchy. Will look out for that. Looks handy for traveling.
Take care and stay safe,
Rob
Great review Dutchy!!
Looked to be a great review. Then I realised it was a Chinese knock off. Buying Chinese knock offs doesnโt do the original manufacture and good.
Thatโs a cracking bit of kit!
The handles you've made are great. You should sell them. Take care.
Well I think I need/want one now!
Ooooooo Buddy, awesome review.
Like the mod with the hooks, yeah the foil in the bottom is a great thing. ๐ค๐ค
I never tried the aluminum foil thing in my my Lodge, but thatโs a pretty good idea!
Great review, Steve! Boy, they sure are very similar, aren't they?
Nice little grill
