Fabric softener is disastrous for any clothes and dryer sheets are flammable
Anyway, Fabric Softeners reduce the life expectancy of your washing machine.
Don't use them ! They clog everything.
I use 1 tbsp bleach to a 5 gal bucket. Wet the clothes in plain water then add to bucket. Let soak several hours to overnight. Then wash as regular (no fabric softener). My whites are bright and stains gone. You can do this with some light colored items too but reduce the bleach to 1/2 tbsp.

I'm a Millennial. I don't waste money on fabric softener liquid and only when stuff is super static prone do I bother with throwing wads of aluminum foil in the dryer. I would eventually like to get those wool ball things that supposedly help in the dryer.

Plus, fabric softeners will minimize the effectiveness of the enzymes that are in most detergents that break down organic debris. I do use white vinegar – I just add it into the bleach dispenser. it helps remove some discoloration, but it deodorizes them better than any commercial product.
Fabric softener is bad news and a waste of money. Skip it!
If you have stains just soak them for at least an hour in some OxiClean flash oxy bleach with your laundry detergent.

I don't use fabric softener on my dish towels or my bath towels bc they do not absorb.
I never use softener, I use sanitizer. My clothes have never been cleaner.
You shouldn't use fabric softener on anything. Try using just a little Distilled White Vinegar in place of fabric softener. Works like magic, and you'll save a lot of money! About a 1/8 – 1/4 cup, based on the size of the load. If you smell vinegar after washing, then you use too much.
Buy white flour sack towels and bleach.
Same goes for your bath towels!! I don’t use fabric softener or dryer sheets anyway.

Wash in cold
Rinse in cold
And hang to dry all year round

Also fabric softener will make your clothes more flammable because of the waxy residue it leaves on your fabric. My husband worked at a metal foundry and his uniform had explicit instructions to never use fabric softener. Why?…because his uniform with waxy residue would literally turn him into a human candle if he caught fire.
I assume that includes not using fabric softener sheets in the dryer too?
Use unscented detergent if you use them for covering your dough. Etc.
Are there actually people that need to know this? I thought this was common knowledge.
