  1. This Ginger Beef recipe was invented by a Chinese Canadian chef from his Calgary Alberta restaurant in the 70โ€™s ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿค

Sliced onions (never diced) or julienned scallions/green onions to pair with the julienned carrots. Beef should be sliced thinner (easiest when the meat is still slightly frozen). White sugar for a cleaner flavour. And donโ€™t overcook the veg before adding in beef or itโ€™s mushy. Rice vinegar instead of white. Sesame seeds not necessary (authentic ginger beef has no sesame seeds, but 1 tbsp sesame oil instead. ) Itโ€™s sweet and spicy crunchy goodness!

If you want to use a cheap (but tough) portion of beef you can massage egg whites into it and let it rest for 20-30minutes. Itโ€™s called โ€œsilkingโ€ and breaks down the fibres and protein without salt.

Nice to see you washed the rice, so many Canadians donโ€™t know itโ€™s necessary!

  2. You have all the ingredients except for the secret one which is Mirin. You can get at the Asian store or the Asian Aisle… I think Kikoman makes one. Put Mirin in your arsenal. You won't regret it! ๐Ÿค—
