One time I tried to order hot and sour soup and the guy taking my order told me to order the seafood tofu soup instead. He said "we don't eat this gravy soup in China!" I smiled and ordered the seafood soup instead, because, I dunno, I listen to Chinese waiters when they tell me I'm ordering wrong. It's a policy that hasn't steered me wrong yet. But at the same time, I was thinking "maybe your family doesn't eat the gravy soup, but I'm pretty sure there are people in China who eat the gravy soup."
