For $0.30 each, I can buy cheaper new Stainless Steel utensils. If I'm ok with 2nd hand or restaurant surplus, can get higher quality SS.
Remember that compostables have to go in compost to break down, not in regular trash! Otherwise they’re just as bad as single use plastic.
Please 🙄, you didn’t test the spoons the same way. This is just like an As Seen on TV infomercial 😂.
Don’t buy plastic cutlery-you consume microplastics buy the one’s made from plants that degrade
I'm partial to the bulk ones you find at Costco.
You can get packages of disposable Chinesium real metal cutlery from the dollar store for next to nothing. 🤷🏻♂️ The metal might be from a decommissioned nuclear power plant knowing how shady and immoral the Chinese are, but the cutlery is cheap and it probably won’t hurt anyone to use it once.
I recently spent an extensive period of time hospitalised with a serious knee infection. During the first week, the cutlery issued with the generally awful pre-packed and pre-cooked meals was single use birchwood. I truly believe that the person who devised this range of flatware NEVER actually used their products. They were even more awful than the "food" on offer.
Idon’t believe the “compostable.”
I’ve never met a bamboo utensil that works!
Sam's Club has 36 piece stainless steel fork, spoon, and dinner knife sets ranging from $8 to $13. Way better than any of these
I like using plastic utensils
I might try buying one of these sets and just use it every day instead of metal cutlery. then use disposable cups and plates and avoid washing dishes . save time, electricity and water
why not just use real metal knives and forks , is it that difficult you Americans!
❤❤
I've been watching Nero Wolf, what is shadow and how do I spell it correctly of course Google is still being a poop and no help
If you are concerned with the environmental impact, use metal. You can wash and reuse.
I have an IKEA near by. They have inexpensive sets (dragon) Started small (16 pieces) and just added more when I had more guests than that.
1:49 C'mon, she was trying to bend the spoon instead of digging into the icecream.
I expect ATK to be a little more environmentally responsible. Recommending any 'disposable' product that is not 100% compostable in a regular dump site is irresponsible. In fact, here in Canada, all single use plastic products were banned, but recent court challenges are unfortunately starting to reverse that legislation. But you will be hard-pressed to find any fast food restaurant using plastic utensils or straws today, at least in Montreal. I am very disappointed in ATK today.
I already knew what the cheap white plastic ones would do. I’ve bought plasticware before for like my grandson’s 18th birthday party that we didn’t have a sit down dinner for, just hors d’oeuvres, same for my son’s 2nd marriage for the reception, both times they were the clear ones, store brands & somewhere around $10.00 for 90 or 100+…those were Safeway & Walmart. I’d do it again!!!
Just go back to metal tools – and put into dishwasher and save the $17 – 50+ tool kit !!!! Buy more drinks with the saved money
What happened to using regular silverware?
Huge fan of Brigette. Plus I think she is so pretty
I use a discounted store brand that looks exactly like the Diamond Entertaining cutlery. They're not compostable, but I wash and reuse them as much as possible. In this case, I view "disposable" as I'd rather loose plastic cutlery at work or the park than pieces my regular stainless steel set. They last quite a while. Most of what I have is over 2 years old, though it looks like I'm going to need to buy another box of forks within the next few months.
Being in a world where plastics create so much environmental damage, it's hard to watch comparisons with these plastics in mind. I am happy to see that a plant based set came out on top. Maybe the environmental impact should become a major qualifier in all your testing. (I know you use a lot of plastic wrap too)
What a wonderful rip off 📴 price 😮.
I would LOVE for Bridget to use my "utensil." 😉
For me they honestly aren’t. I purchased stainless steel ones from a restaurant supply store and I store them in the small cabinet above the fridge. I keep extra cloth napkins and the extra dinner plates and bowls for parties/company. I have never needed more than the set of 20 I have for each guest, but if I would need more I’d buy them after bringing out the extra guest silverware and our regular daily set
I have never, and wil never purchase plastic, throw away cutlery. If I cannot afford to rent flatware, I should not be hosting a meal. That said: sustainable materials are excellent. I do purchase sugar cane straws. I would happily purchase sugar cane cutlery.
P.S. I grew up in a home wherein we used Mikasa China as our daily, and my mother has always had service for 12. Three sets of China, from her wedding. Yes. She is a Texan princess.
Considering the scale of the plastic waste problem, maybe we need to be asking ourselves what we did before we reached for the convenience of "disposable" plastic goods?
Ridiculous. The ones from Dollar Tree work just fine.
don't know about parties…. but my grandparents had very nice stainless steel utensils(knives, forks, spoons) that were recommended by America's Test Kitchen a long time ago. They took the utensils(12-person set, as I recall) to a local shop and had them laser engrave the names of family members and guests…. so whenever we went to their house, we would always get our own utensils with our names on them. (which nobody else was allowed to use, except the person whose name was on the knife/fork/spoon. 🙂
I used those compostable ones before, I think I spent $7 for a box of 100, it really worked out well for me since I don’t use disposable all the time and the times I do it’s a lot more guilt free when using it. But now I’ve got a set of metal utensils at work now and don’t use disposable anymore
It is worth noting that the ecovita are made of polylactic acid (the same plastic that most people use in their consumer fdm 3d printers), and that "compostable" does not mean that you can just toss it in a compost pile. Composting pla requires specific conditions, so just throwing these in the garbage isn't a whole lot better than throwing any other plastic utensils in the garbage.
My favorite ones are the Great Value Premium Disposable cutlery
