Blown away by all the comments. I’m elk hunting right now but hiked out of the woods to respond to comments. I’ll do my best to respond before hiking back in the morning.
I use Pit Boss Competition w/ very good results; especially with spatchcock turkey, chicken wings and pulled pork.
I recently bought some Lumberjack from Blains on sale via fellow bud's recommendation who's used > 200#'s of it this past year. I will use for my next smoke for comparison.
Have heard about auger feeding issues w/ Traeger's pellets in their own Traeger grills.
I switched from Weber champion blend pellets to Royal Oak charcoal pellets and my Pit Boss Brunswick Platinum makes much better smoked meats. I also use a smoke tube that lasts for about 4 hours using the charcoal pellets mentioned above too. Love the smoker, but I regret giving my dad my old charcoal smoker. That thing made way better smoked meats than anything I have used in the past.
If I'm not mistaken, Traeger requires you to use their pellets, otherwise you'll void your warranty! Is this not correct??? That said, I'm not entirely sure how they would know you didn't use their brand of pellets!
I can tell you from experiments I've done with trying to grow mushrooms on wood pellets that all of the companies are lying. There pellets are soft wood. The mushroom species I would try to grow would only grow on hard wood pellets.
I just bought a pellet grill a couple of weeks ago. My first pellets were Pit Boss competition blend, and I was extremely disappointed. My pork butt tasted like it came out of oven. I then bought some bear mountain and made ribs. It was a really good step up. I just discovered that a store near me carries lumberjack brand and i plan on trying those soon. I will never use pit boss for smoking vut for the price I will definitely use them if I just want a nice hot flame on my grill for a non-smoke cook.
I have used LJ for 10 years. I have a Rual King near me and they are $8.88 a bag!
My husband doesn’t love the taste of “smoked meat” what would be the BEST pellet to use for grilling or smoking?
iv been using pit boss this whole time. well im doing a cookout for my work and I think im going to get some lumberjack!
Well it seems there is a Federal Mandate against overnight shipping of pellets SMH I wanted the Lumberjack for this weekend, it's Wed, May 10th and the quickest I would receive from anyone including Santa Clause was the following Wednesday.
Really appreciate the researcher you are. You put in more effort here, and have more resources, than many do in their masters theses haha.
Unfortunately, the traeger pellets are the only ones ive had feed through my Cuisineart smoker reliably.
Awesome, awesome video. About 70% of what you shared I knew, but that 30% is golden. Great info on Traeger – I never knew why I hated their pellets but now I do 😉
LOL, before I saw this, I watched your video where you did the "blind" pellet test and Traeger got the most number one votes and zero last choice votes of six brands of pellets from the panel of experience judges. Now I see why you were so disappointed that Traeger was by far, the favorite.
Ive tried about 5 different brands and honestly i cant tell the difference lol
I buy them when there is nothing else they suck but work … pit boss hickory is cheap but way better .. I really like the Camp Chef Competition Blend
I'm just getting into pellet smokers. I understood different pellets gave different results, but I grabbed anything to start experimenting. Coincidentally saw treager pellets for $8.50 per 20lb bag.
Knotty Wood offers financing to purchase their wood pellets. 😂 30% APR in case you’re a broke idiot.
It's funny because my wife does not like the smoke flavor. Costco Traeger Pellets it is. 😛
I really like Bear Mountain. Very large selection of woods.
