Janet P. asked us on Facebook: “Can I freeze pie crusts? How do I go about doing that?”
The test cooks at America’s Test Kitchen answer your cooking questions straight from the kitchen.
To ask a question, tweet us @TestKitchen or ask us on Facebook:
Due to the high volume of questions, we are not able to answer every single one. We try our best, but the test cooks have to get back to testing recipes!
America’s Test Kitchen is a real 2,500 square foot test kitchen located just outside of Boston that is home to more than three dozen full-time cooks and product testers. Our mission is simple: to develop the absolute best recipes for all of your favorite foods. To do this, we test each recipe 30, 40, sometimes as many as 70 times, until we arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most-foolproof recipe.

Can I freeze an uncooked apple pie in a glass pyrex pie pan and cook the frozen pie from freezer in a preheated oven without the glass braking
Question. I have a vacuum sealer. Would vacuum sealing the dough extend the life of my pastry dough in the freezer?
Thank you for your time.
Could you add a video on how to properly "thaw" the pie dough after freezing to assure best performance? I have actively searched the web for instructions on how to thaw make ahead dough and there isn't any!!!
Thank you! 🙂
