Ask the Test Kitchen: Tips and Ideas for Small Kitchens

Daniel H. asked on Google+: “We have a very small kitchen with very little countertop space. Do you have any space-saving tips?”

The test cooks at America’s Test Kitchen answer your cooking questions straight from the kitchen.

To ask a question, tweet us @TestKitchen or ask us on Facebook or Google+:

Due to the high volume of questions, we are not able to answer every single one. We try our best, but the test cooks have to get back to testing recipes!

America’s Test Kitchen is a real 2,500 square foot test kitchen located just outside of Boston that is home to more than three dozen full-time cooks and product testers. Our mission is simple: to develop the absolute best recipes for all of your favorite foods. To do this, we test each recipe 30, 40, sometimes as many as 70 times, until we arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most-foolproof recipe.

  1. I don't have any wall space. My kitchen is so tiny there are cupboards or appliances on on all the walls. I have 2 cabinets worth of work space on one side of the sink and 1 on the other and absolutely none on the other side of the kitchen, only my stove and fridge. I did manage to squeeze a very narrow trash can between the two. Any tips for that?
