This tender braised steak melts in your mouth and is served with a rich, velvety gravy that’s full of deep flavour. It’s a comforting homestyle classic that’s surprisingly easy to make – the oven does most of the work! In this video, I demonstrate my favourite method, including how to get beautifully browned beef, build a proper gravy, and serve it up with honeyed carrots, boiled potatoes, and peas. It’s a meal that always gets rave reviews.
I also share a few personal touches, like a tip from my son-in-law’s professional cookery book, and some tricks I’ve picked up from years of cooking at work. Whether you’re after a hearty Sunday lunch or a classic weeknight dinner, this one’s a keeper.
🧡 Thanks so much for watching – hope you enjoy this one as much as we do!

Mike demolished two big plates of this at once — it’s such a comforting and delicious way to cook beef. I really hope you enjoy it. Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate you being here.
And don’t worry — no hair made it into the food during filming 😉😊❤
I wouldn’t strain the gravy either Mike 🏴🏴🏴
Wow, soo simple but looks amazing. My mouth is watering just watching. Well done.
That is definitely on the menu this week thank you, looking forward to seeing more form you .
This looks delicious!
Do you think beef skirt would work with this method?
The super lean beef wont do , tasteless and dry
Thank you it looks delicious❤❤❤❤😊
Hmm,thinking you are a southern lady, your accent is definitely not Lancashire, England 😂😂, if I am right and you are in oz, give me a point in the quiz team 😅😅, is it wrong to say that every country has a comforting stew of somthaughts, where there is no recipe, we had a family allotment many years ago in 2001 when times were good in the UK, wish we had it now 🫣🤫, a stew is a good hearty meal, no matter what the country, we all do the same thing, so why can we not cook together in peace ❤❤,
Braise steak 🤪 cook mine with tamarin and also do my carrots like that with a dash of cinnamon on top
It looks delicious. I like your cooking technique. I could follow your reasoning for ingredients and even get an idea of the taste. This seems like a meal the elderly and young children can easily eat ….simple herbs and seasonings and soft textures. I cook gluten free too. So I appreciate how you thickened the gravy. I have a chuck roast thawing in the fridge. I think I'll try this tonight. Thank you for sharing your recipe.
Indeed this is a lovely recipe thankyou. Made it the other day. Delish!
I've never seen the browning of the roux in the oven before, what a fantastic way of doing it!
My mum used to make this. Thanks for this wonderful recipe.
We have always made braisring steak my dad cooked it when we were kids lovely coming home on a cold winters evening ❤
Yum
And half a bottle of wine later we just cut our carrots long ways like so, chuck them in the saucepan and pour in our lovely bong water
My mother always used chuck steak or gravy beef for casseroles or stews. It really gives a lovely flavour. It takes a while to cook, but it just falls apart. I will try this. It reminds me of her cooking. Old fashioned, nutritious and so tasty. Looks so good I’ve just subscribed. I’m 67. I love good old cooking. Give me this sort of food any day.
Hey Lee this looks so good, and was explained so clearly, I had to subscribe! Thanks for sharing😊
I like the 20% naughty 😊
I don't really eat beef much anymore, it's not heart-smart, but I might have to try this. Braised meat of many sorts is always good. Nice and tender and you can't argue with a silky gravy.
YUM Simple nourishing and easy to follow. Thank you ✅👍
Looks bloody luvly 🤪🤪👍
The lumps in the gravy is the best bit, love this way of cooking 😊😊
Looks delicious 😊
7:35 minutes into the video I heard that, had someone been eating beans ? 😂😂
Can i freeze it?
My Mother made this a lot & I have too, it’s delicious 👍
Looks really nice going to try it look forward to seeing your next video
Damn, I just stumbled across your vid and guess what, you have a new subscriber. I've saved your vid to try it a bit later. Cheers.
better with mashed potatoes with butter
I love comfort food
Braised Steak without heaps of onions is a travesty
My goodness that looked so divine . Lovely receipt I will try this thank you…I might use brown ale instead of stock or with the stock….♥ I like your presentation.
The meal looks almost as lovely as you do, personally I do not strain the gravy,
So pot roast.
For myself, if the gravy is a little thick, I think I'd thin it with a little red wine.
You cannot beat an enamelled cast iron pot with lid for this. Your method is very similar to that which my Nanna taught me.
I really love your simple home made simple recipes and I love listening to you giving the instructions with your endearing accent.Thank you.
Awesome recipe. So unique and manages a steak family meal at a nice price.
Looks absolutely delicious 😋
new sub loved the video hello from Perth
Just discovered your channel. Great to have an Aussie cooking channel. I’m definitely going to try the braised beef. Looked soooo yummy.
This Kentucky boy loves his steaks cooked over a fire. However, this looks amazingly delicious. I already prepare carrots this way. Only difference is I add a small splash of bourbon to them. I’m trying your recipe and maybe next weekend. Muchas gracias!!!!
I have been doing braising steak for 52 years and my mum did it for us as kids.
i must make this dish
Looks yummy and I can almost smell it going to try it
As I was looking at you make this, I was immediately interested to see you use gluten free flour, "Coeliac disease" sufferer. I will definitely try this method, and I noticed that all of the recipes I had a quick look at appear to be gluten free also.😊
❤❤video great thanks you roy 😊😊
This woman obviously has,a dishwasher/husband , why use a couple of pans when 10 will do just as well 😀 I am gonna make this though
She took the potatoes out of a bowl of water into another pan and then poured the same water in, why not pour the bowl of potatoes and water into the pan.
