Cental Grand Restaurant is a well known Chinese restaurant located at 295- 1623 Centre St. N in Calgary. Alberta. They have been in business for 25 years and specialize in serving delicious Cantonese dishes. In the first half of this video, we try their huge Tiger Prawns Coated with Duck Egg Sauce served over a bed of brocolli crowns. We also had the deep fried shrimp dumplings known as har gow. This is the first time we have had deep har gow dumplings instead of the more traditional steamed har gow dumplings. We also had the deep fried chicken with the crispy skin and flavorful chicken meat. We also had some crispy spring rolls. As usual, I try to always order the House Special Chow Mein whenever we try a new restaurant. Finally, we tried the bean curd wrapped Buddha’s feast with 4 kinds of mushrooms and lots of vegetables. It was vertainly an enjoyable full on Chinese feast.

CHINESE ROAST LEMON CHICKEN 中国烤柠檬鸡食谱

This recipe is still delicious without the salted lemons. This recipe made with a free range chicken but a regular chicken can also be used.

1 free range chicken (or regular chicken)
6 tbsp. cooking oil
1 to 2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sesame oil
1 to 2 tsp. 5 spice powder
3 tablespoons chopped ginger
2 tablespoons chopped garlic
3 star anise
1 stalk green onion
3 to 4 Vietnamese salted lemons salted

Put the chicken on a tray.

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients in the cooking oil, except the salted lemons. Put 2/3 of the mixture into the cavity of the
chicken. Rub the remaining 1/3 of the mixture over the outside of the chicken.

Slice the salted lemons and squeeze all over the outside of the chicken. If you don’t have salted lemons, just squeeze the juice of 1/2 a regular lemon over the outside of the chicken.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Total cooking time is about 50 minutes. Cook the chicken for 25 minutes at 400 degrees. Turn the chicken tray around for more even cooking. Finish cooking the chicken for 25 minutes at 325 degrees. For a larger chicken, cooking time is longer.

Optional: If you want to put some honey to sweeten the taste against the lemon, just mix 3 tablespoons of honey with 1 tablespoon water in a bowl. Spread the honey water on the chicken in the last 15 minutes of cooking.
