I was surprised she used canned tomatoes with a cast iron pan. I thought you were not supposed to use acidic foods in cast iron?
Goulash looks good, but the name Goulash sounds like something gross. There should have been a better name for it

Goulash is a family favorite at my house! It's so hearty & delicious. We make ours very similar to yours Paula. It's such a wonderful comfort food. I can see why Bobby always asks for it got his birthday.

I love goulash, only thing I change is switching 1 pound of hamburger for Jimmy Deans sausage, that stuff in a roll. So its 1 pound of good hamburger, not walmarts crap and 1 pound of sausage.
Love Paula Deen……Here in the northeast we call it American Chop Suey. Here's a tip I got from my mother. #1 always use good hamburger (not WalMart). Anyways, cook the hamburger until it is very caramelized. Like, on the verge of being burned, but definitely NOT burned and don't forget the black pepper while cooking. You'll have to stay with it and keep moving the meat so as not to let it burn. And that's it. Make it the way you want from there.
Personally, I just add to plain petite cut tomatoes and simmer for about half an hour and salt to taste. Add to elbow mac and enjoy. So simple, yet the extremely caramelized meat really adds a full rich flavor.
