Matt seems to have a seemingly endless number of smoothie ideas pouring out of his head. As he heads back out in the Silk truck he decides to tackle one of the most beloved flavors in all the land, Carmel Apple Pie, with the help of The Domestic Geek.
Originating in Western Europe Apple Pie has certainly does it’s fair share of traveling since it’s inception during the Middle Ages. A recipe was in fact found in a Dutch cookbook dating all the way back to 1514. Since that time each culture that has adopted the pie has put it’s own unique spin on the delectable dish. Though it is still a matter of debate as to when exactly the Carmel Apple Pie came to be a specific variation of the Apple Pie we have all come to know and love there is no debating it’s unique, and for many, irresistible flavoring.
In classic Fidel Gastro style Matt decides to put a twist on this timeless classic and show you an easy smoothie recipe that gives you all the flavor of a Carmel Apple Pie without ever having to break out so much as a rolling pin. He enlists the help of Sara Lynn Cauchon, also known as The Domestic Geek and according to Matt the Queen of the Smoothie as well, to help him accomplish the task. Who better to help make a smoothie than the Queen of the Smoothie herself?
To concoct this epic smoothie masterpiece start by adding crushed ice to your blender. You will add what appears to be about a cup of unsweetened apple sauce next. it’s important to note that unsweetened apple sauce is used for this recipe for one simple reason. You can always add more sugar, or other sweetener of your choosing, you cannot however take it away from the smoothie once it’s been made. Now that you have your ice and apple sauce added put in some brown sugar, a bit of cinnamon, some roasted sliced apples, a banana, some dates, and finally follow that up with quite a bit of Silk Almond Milk.
You will blend this mixture until you reach your desired consistency, if you find yourself in doubt of what that consistency might be simply refer to the video. Although Matt claims to be a smoothie novice he seems to be able to reach a near perfect consistency relatively effortlessly every time. After blending your smoothie to perfection pour it into your favorite smoothie cup. You may think at this point that your smoothie is complete but don’t stop now, you’re almost there. We aren’t after a good smoothie here, we’re after a great one.
Matt really wanted this particular smoothie to scream “OH PIE!” when you took your first look at it and that requires a few more small steps. On top of your smoothie crumble in your choice of pie crust, a few slices of dried apples, more brown sugar, and finally finish it all off with drizzled Carmel. There is no rule regarding how much Carmel you put on your smoothie other than the one Matt made when he was drizzling his which was “the more the better”, so feel free to go crazy with the Carmel.
If you have any smoothie ideas of your own, or comments on Matt’s smoothie technique please feel free to chime in. Special thanks to Sara Lynn Cauchon from The Domestic Geek YouTube Channel for making this smoothie one to remember.
