Thanks for the review, can you remove the middle section to hang the meat vertically?
With the Lawson 470, are you able to hang ribs etc. and is there a rotisserie option?
Nice review, I’m just started looking into this low n slow thing. Might go and grab one after looking this review. Just a question, what do you use to clean this bbq?
Enjoyed the Rib video!
I'm having a bit of trouble with the temperatures on my 470, but i'm only a beginner.
I've noticed that changing the vent positions has little to no effect on the temperatures.
If i closed the air intake completely the temperature held steady, and if i opened both intake and exhaust fully it didn't rise at all, even after waiting 30-40minutes for it to adjust.
The only way i could increase the temperature was adding more brickettes, or using my wifes hairdryer to stoke it up a bit..
I did find it very easy to maintain a given temperature once you're there, it just refused to change by using only the vents.
I was using water in the pan so that probably slowed temperature changes, and it got hotter as the water evaporated and the bowl emptied.
Throughout the 10hour cook it varied between 225F and 275F, and only the water or addition of fuel changed those temperatures.
(for my first cook i did a small Lamb shoulder, whole chicken, chicken hearts, baked beans and pork sausages).
Good review. I just got one for NZ$199 and don't feel ripped off. Good idea putting the wood chunks under the coals.
Great review Sam! Really good price, I might have to look into it. Thank you for sharing, looking forward to seeing what you make on it
