Ingredients

– 150g flour
– 200ml warm water
– 3 tsp salt
– 3 tsp sugar
– 4g baking powder
– 3g yeast
– Butter for cooking

Method

1. Place the yeast into a small bowl and add a tbsp of warm water to it.
2. Mix it to a paste and set aside.
3. In a mixing bowl add the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder and whisk.
4. Make a well in the centre of the flour and add the water and yeast paste.
5. Whisk until smooth and cover the bowl, set aside for 1 hour or until the batter just starts to bubble.
6. In a skillet or hotplate over medium heat, add some rings and brush with butter.
7. Pour in the batter halfway up the rings.
8. Let them cook until you see the bubbles on the top and it looks like the crumpet is cooked.
9. Flip and cook for 30 seconds on the top side, remove and let cool on a wire rack.
10. Serve with butter and jam and enjoy!

  1. I still don’t get why the US or UK people would have sweets as breakfast. In Asia it’s always savory dishes with meats as breakfast. It’s like a culture shock to me every time even though I knew it for almost 17 years now.
