It’s thanksgiving and the entire family is coming or dinner at my house! I get up to discover my oven has died! Now what?! My parents to the rescue! My dad brought over my mother’s large nesco oven! Well, I had used them to keep food warm but never to cook! I get the turkey into the nesco and continue on with prep of other things. My mother had warned about opening the oven and letting the heat escape so it resisted the urge! Well, it came time to work on the gravy. I popped the top to scoop out some juices and started to cry! I was devastated! It had smelled so good! I looked down into the pot and it looked like someone had thrown in a hand grenade and slammed the cover shut! There stood the frame of the turkey and as it cooked everything slid off the bones and ended up at the bottom! It didn’t even look like a turkey! In the end, it turned out to be the ugliest looking , best tasting, juiciest turkey ever!
Does that count?
I made the Italian Pork chop – sort of. We did not have pork chops so I substituted chicken breasts and green beans. Oh and my Parmesan cheese had expired. That being said, it was delicious and super easy. The marinade, I rubbed it on the chicken breasts. And tossed the green beans and the potatoes is the remaining seasoning. Cooked the vegetables first for 10 minutes, sprinkled some Kinders The Blend on them, then added the chicken on top and cooked for 35 minutes. Thank you for a great recipe!!
My most painful mistake comes under the heading of Pride Goeth Before a Fall". I was in high school and I loved to bake things and make simple dinners for my family on weekends. I had invited a couple of friends over and I was showing them how to make cookies. When I took them out of the oven, I wanted to present them with a flourish so I balanced the cookie sheet on the oven mitt covering my lower arm, sort of like a waiter carrying a tray with one hand. When I stood up and turned to show them off, the hit sheet slid down the oven mitt to my elbow, burning the inside of my lower arm and upper arm and the tender elbow in between. I had a scar there for years!
If you want to make life easier when it comes to the cleanup, line your sheet pan with some heavy duty foil. Then when done, just throw the foil away and put your pan away. ZERO cleaning!
Before cameras and YouTube, I was opening up a can of ham. Do you remember the twisty metal of the canned ham? Well I was very young and having problems opening it up so I grabbed the twisted metal and I practically cut my right thumb off. My mom rushed me to the hospital and it was stitched up and now I have scar to remind me how stupid I once was.
Most embarrassing and painful kitchen mistake….I cooked a sauce pan of veggies in the stove top. Carried them to the table and instead of drawing or setting them down first, I say down at the table. When I did, the hot water from the pan dumped in my lap. I was unable to wear clothes for a very long time from the burns I sustained! It was not my finest moment! Ugh! Lesson learned!
Thank you! I want to make the broccoli and chicken bake. Have a great day!
looks good but not for me i some reason don’t enjoy sheetpan veggies
Last was making honey glazed carrots. The glaze was HOT. I was not thinking when tapped my finger into the glaze yo taste. Yep, it burned my finger. I learned my lesson. Lol
Got the italian pork chops sheet pan meal in the oven now. Thanks so much for the idea!
I have cooked at restaurants and just Mom & Pop places. Even doing all that cooking at some time you run short of time. And yes I have grabed a HOT POT Handle ! Thak God you live and learn, a few small burns here and there but that the way the cookie crumbles. Take Care All
Not mine as the cook but as the diner, a relative was staying with us and wanted to cook a meal for us to thank us. She made one mistake and that was thinking that a container held paprika when fact it was cayenne pepper. Needless to say, the food was a bit hot/spicy!
So 10 years ago I was staying at my friends beach house and was hosting a dinner party for family and friends. Since it was not my kitchen. I grabbed a decanter of olive oil to put on roast chicken. The liquid was yellow. It was like a scene in a bad movie. Everyone took first bite and spit out chicken at same time. It seems I marinated the meat with joy dish detergent. Ugh. Pizza it was that night 😂
I just made a sheet pan recipe for our dinner today and now I'm getting on YouTube and it's what your video is about. Great minds think a like. Mine was potatoes, onions, green peppers, asparagus and sausage. Simple and delicious.
When I was newly married (42 yrs ago), we went to the house of my husband's mother. We had a new apartment and my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law all wanted to see our new place, so off we all went, a few minutes drive away. When we walked in the smell hit everyone square in the face…I had put a pot of pinto beans on the stove to cook for our dinner that night…and had forgotten about them so they were on the stove, burned to a crisp and the odor was horrible. I was so SO embarrassed, for the obvious reasons, but also because my MIL really did make the best pinto beans. Honestly, I don't know how the smoke alarms didn't go off for the whole complex, or how they didn't start a fire. Never went off leaving something cooking on the stove again! My in-laws were great and I don't think they mentioned it but one or two times over the years, lol. I'm still a little embarrassed, but I make great pinto beans now, on par with my late MIL.
I worked for the college food line, catering. I’m short and the boss didn’t think about where he put me this one might. It was at the pizza station. The oven was countertop and 3 ovens sections. The lowest was chest high. He came over and I was taken the pizza out. Guess not fast enough for him do he grabbed a hot pad and pulled it out faster than I was. Put it mildly I was in immediate pain. It went through the apron my shirt and undergarment. He told me to go to the bathroom and check out what happened. It was second degree burns across my chest. The female boss told me to show her. Not happening. Ended going to my doctor the next morning and getting pain meds and a burn cream.
I had a stone bowl with stone top i used small hot pads to remove the top the stem hit my hands and they blistered 3 times there size. my wife went to the drug store to get to get wet pads for 3 rd degree burns. boy the pain I had never will do that again.
As a newlywed I made a frozen cherry pie in a foil pie pan….many already know the outcome…I picked it up and it folded in half and then flipped upside down all over the floor.
Couple of embarrasing cooking stories happened when I was hosting dinner parties in high school. First: I didn't eat much meat and never cooked it before. I decided pork loin chops were going to be the easiest…. Hockey pucks are softer…. Second: I misread the recipe for Kahlua Chocolate Mousse… I added the alcohol last… 14 drunk teenagers sprawled out over the floor of my grandmothers….
OK. Here's a laugh for you and your subbies. My mom was not the kind of mom that taught us how to cook. I never learned until recently, and I am now going on 63 years old. No one taught me how to cook. Back when I was 16 I wanted to bake a cake. My mom told me to read the instructions instead of talking me through the process. I didn't know that you had to let the cake COOL BEFORE YOU FROSTED IT!!!! When I took the cake out of the oven, my mom didn't event tell me at that point to let the cake cool. I started frosting it and the icing started melting. Now it's a big joke in my family about that cake. My dad called it my "MOON CAKE". EVERYONE got a big laugh out of it, UNTIL I told them that my mom never taught me how to cook and never told me that I had to let the cake cool first. My dad wouldn't let us in the kitchen when mom was cooking, so I never learned how to cook! I'm surprised I never burnt HOT DOGS!!! Everything I cooked came out of a can or a box. One time I cooked a turkey. My mom didn't tell me you had to take out the bag in the turkey that the gizzards were in. So, I cooked the turkey. Then when we went to cut it, my mom noticed something inside. She pulled out this bag. We got a laugh out of that, too. But now that I KNOW how to cook, I'm loving it. I never burnt my fingers on anything, but I did mess up a lot of food. Now, I'm ALWAYS trying something new. I'm glad your sister's fingers got better!!! Burns on the fingertips can be excruciating when you have to use your fingers. Have a great Sunday!!!!
I dropped a oven mitt in the oven, it caught fire. I had to go get my husband because I didn’t know what to do.
My story is that I burned my cookbook. I had stuff in the oven and had my cookbook laying on the stovetop. It was actually laying over the oven vent and it melted it. It is fully embarrassing, but also tragic because it was my copy of my ward's cookbook from the '80s. Heartbroken.
I almost burned my kitchen down by putting water on a grease fire 🔥. I then stupidly took the hot pan off the stove and put in my Formica countertops. My apartment filled with smoke. I had to leave because I started getting smoke inhalation. I also have a very bad burnt spot on my countertop to this day. So between that any my cat tearing up the carpet, I am totally not getting my deposit back when I move LOL 🤣
will you do a DUMP AND GP keto meals
When I was first married I tried making homemade noodles they were so thick and tough our dog wouldn't even eat them 😂🤣😂😂. That was almost 42 yrs ago and my cooking has definitely improved
I would call it a classic: every single sharp instrument I get for the kitchen. I will cut myself within the first 3 times of using them. Just to test the sharpness – you know…
So…hot pads or a hot water bottle?? 😂😂😂
I’d mix the panko breadcrumbs with the seasoning too for the chicken and broccoli casserole-otherwise it’ll be bland.
GREEN OLIVES for Olive oil was very wise of you to use. 🫒 My mistake during my early years of marriage was using the wrong olive oil. Our Greek relative said to use the Green Olive Oil and she pointed to her container that had Green Olives displayed on the outside. Thank you for another great, informative video!
When I was first learning to cook in middle school, I really wanted to make zucchini bread. My parents worked so there was no one home to help me but I figured I could follow a recipe. However, I overestimated my ability to distinguish a cucumber from a zucchini…cucumbers don’t make good bread, in case you’re wondering.
Love to Harper!
Every year for thanksgiving we used to go to either my mother-in-law's or my mother's and when it was my turn to try to do Thanksgiving, I pulled out the turkey and I had it in a foil pan. Pull it out and all the drippings spilled all over the floor. I was so upset because there was no gravy.
The recipes look very good.
Tha background music, not so much.
Extremely annoying.
I was carmelizing sugar (water and brown sugar). I turned my back for a second, and the pot boiled over. I hurried to grab paper towels and wipe it up. It's a ceramic cook top. My fingers were covered in boiling sugar mess as well as my cook top. It's prob one of the worst pains I've ever experienced. I definitely blistered, and it took about a month for my fingers to heal and get feeling back.
Kristin, you’re so stinking adorable. 😍 I love watching your videos and I absolutely will try these recipes! Heaven knows – the easier the better! Thanks so much for taking the time to share this with us!
I once worked hard to make a pavlova for dinner at a friend’s house. My friend was early in a pregnancy and the texture of it literally made her sick. I know it wasn’t my fault but I was embarrassed nonetheless.
Also…I had to serve a tray of coffee to a room of executives in a meeting at my first job ( I was 18) . Forgot to turn on the water urn and served everyone cold coffee. PS they were nice and didn't fire me
My most embarassing cooking moment was also the one that had me laugh/crying hysterically for 5 minutes straight. I had boiled up a HUGE pot of chicken bones and skin for a massive chicken soup. I figured I'd be smart and strain the whole thing in my sink with a strainer instead of picking out all the bones and skin by hand. Wouldn't you know, I forgot to place a pot under the strainer and proceeded to pour the whole pot into the strainer and down the drain!
love sheet pan meals , and these all looked amazing!!! def giving them a try !! i have to say when my husband and i married yrs ago , i was new to a lot of cooking but i wanted so bad to impress my husband with home made bread !! first time mind you!! so i made the dough , let it rise , beat it down , let it rise again , beat it down , then i put into a bread pan and let it rise , it was beautiful!!! put it in oven to bake , and for what ever reason , prolly to much yeast , it rose so high when baking that it touched the top dome of heating element and turned the whole top black , i was so upset , and course my husband always so calm said its not a problem , and he just cut the whole top crust off and we ate it , it was a great bread , it was soft and and so taste!! 43 yrs later im still making home made bread , cinn rolls , pizza dough , and rolls , its gotta be fresh for us …. but ur bread looked like the top of mine ….lol
I really enjoy cooking on a sheet pan. My most traumatic cooking adventure was when I dropped a fruitcake as I took it out of the oven. That was a sad day.
So one day about 20 years ago I was boiling water for corn. I decided that would be a good time to wipe down the stove top at this time. I moved the pot to the burner on the other side and proceeded to grab the grate that the pot had been on with my bare hands (I was completely sober🙄) to wipe down that side. The grate literally stuck to my hand before falling off!!! I had the shape of the grate burned to my hand (think Home Alone bad guy Harrywith an "M" burned to his hand). Fortunately I didn't need medical attention but I kept an ice pack on it for a good 12 hours.
When I was twelve I made a recipe that called for 1 cup of boiling water. I was worried that if I measured the water cold some would evaporate. So I boiled several cups and then tried to pour the water into a 1 cup measuring cup. The water went over my whole hand and I had many severe burns. Thankfully I had know to immediately put my hand under the running cold water and call for my mom to take me to the ER. My hand healed fine and I don't even have scars.
Or the first turkey I've ever cooked, hahaha I left the paper bag with the gizzard, liver and neck inside the turkey. Omgoodness. So embarrassing. 👋 bye
Looks all so delicious. I love chicken and broccoli rice casserole
Ok, how embarrassing is this . I was hosting my family for Thanksgiving one year and…. hahaha I have a double oven and put my dressing in the bottom oven and forgot to turn it on , so needless to say we had a very late lunch. Thanks for sharing your recipes. Have a great day 💗 Sherry
When I was newly married, I was trying to make a flambé chicken recipe. I poured the bourbon in and my lighter wouldn’t work. Of course, the lighter finally worked and caused a huge fireball. The fire caught a section of my hair. Husband started smacking me in the head to kill the fire. The food turned out fine, but I still have a small bald spot 30 years later.
