Can soda can chicken be better than beer can chicken? I’ve always said that beer can chicken is a BBQ classic. People love to make it and it’s so fun. It’s a great way to cook a bird to get succulent and juicy chicken. Every time I make it and post it on social media, my friend Jonathan Fox from Fox Bros Bar-B-Q in Georgia tells me to “save the beer and make it with a Dr. Pepper instead.” He has always told me he loves the sweet and nutty flavor that it delivers plus you save the beer to drink!
Dr. Pepper is such an iconic part of Texas history considering it was born in Waco, TX. In this recipe we make Dr. Pepper Chicken with a pure cane sugar Dr. Pepper (Wal-Mart), so no high fructose corn syrup. We also make a very delicious Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce to glaze the chicken with near the end.

It is awesome Worcestershire sauce! Now Academy has it! Don’t have to buy it online anymore.
I'd love to see more recipes using less common meats like quail, duck, goat, venison, bison, etc.
Try smoking a pork shoulder with a Greek inspired rub and serve it like a gyro. It's so good. You won't be disappointed.
A good idea besides just recipes would be maybe talking about different types of firewood and what they do with flavor profiles on different types of me. As always thanks for the concert. Love from Fort Worth
Looks delicious, will definitely be trying this one.
New subscriber, watched the video yesterday, smoking the bird today and doing a Chuck roast with the fajita and holy gospel…would love to see a play on doing an entire holiday meal on the smoker, side burner or even a Mother’s Day themed thing for the wife so she can chill and I can throw down on the smoke
My tegger min temp is 160F . It smokes really good on startup. Once it gets past 160f the smoke is so intermittent, it really discourages me from like it as a smoker. I end up using a master built propane smoker that is golden. Now tregger makes a pellet grill that just does smoke. It came out a month after I bought a $1000 tregger. Just my luck
Oooooo sounds/looks good . I got a double bear can chicken tray from cabelas years ago. I put vegetables on the bottom of tray too. It’s so fucking juicy. I’ve seen people attempt to make beer can chicken and fail and never attempt to try again. Pain in the butt to clean the tray so pam the shit out the tray before starting for my stainless steel tray. They say to tuck in the wings but I don’t. Cans release poison? Fme
How long do you smoke at 350?
I injoyed you on BBQ MASTERS
Could you do this with Coke?
Shout out to the hestan pots and pans. I have a set, they are fantastic
Smoked Mac and cheese would be an awesome video! Maybe some other sides too if the video needs to be longer
I'm so pissed at Dr pepper now! Was my fav…now it can suck it!
I live walking distance to Fox Bros. and they are by far the most overrated BBQ joint in Atlanta if not the state of Georgia. The only compliment they get from people here is their Mac'n cheese.
Waco
I tired to visit Dr Pepper but two school buses unloaded just as I got there so I passed. Hind-site today I should have toured the Dr Pepper bottling plant. I thought it was in Waco. Dublin?
You say Texas Sugar is not too sweet. First two ingredients are Sugar and Honey
Would love to see a homemade jerky!
I love buffalo chicken Mac and Cheese, I’ve always wanted to do a smoked one. Maybe you could use yalls cheese dip recipe for the cheese portion. Throw some ranch on top with hot sauce, bacon, and green onion.
Had any issues with your Timberline XL looking to make it my next purchase and yours looks well used, big purchased and want to be well informed
I love that you are using the real Dr. Pepper. My granddad worked all his life for Dr. Pepper. He started in Lubbock in the 50's. When they opened the first mall in Lubbock, he was there with his crew and there was a "Rock and Roll" band that played at the mall opening. After they played, my granddad bought the lead singer a Dr. Pepper and a burger. That was Elvis Presley before he was famous! anyway, he then moved on to Corpus Christi and ran that plant and then off to Kingsville before he retired from there. I grew up drinking a lot of Dr. Pepper. I loved seeing the old bottles on your table.
00:23 I looks like you have a human face in formaldehyde! bhahahhaa
Dr. Pepper was actually created in Rural Retreat Virginia by Wade Morrison after Mr. Morrison was cast aside as not being worthy for his bosses daughter's hand in marriage he left to Texas were he later started producing the soda, and named that soda after the Dr. that said he was not worthy of his daughters hand in marriage…… Dr. Pepper. I would suggest you do more research before you just throw facts around. Good thing we are here for the cooking.
Looking forward to try another Meat Church dish!!
Matt, my wife and I attended the Ft Worth Music Festival a few weeks ago and ate at the H3 Steakhouse. I had their Pork Tacos and my first thought was “These are amazing”. My second thought was “I think I can make these”.
They use a “smoked salsa” and I had recently watched your video on making that. They used rotisserie cooked pork, but why not use pulled pork? You recently used Cholula sauce as a binder and this weekend I used it on a couple of pork butts and used Holy Cow for my seasoning. After pulling and shredding the pork I seasoned it with my own BBQ sauce which is very similar to your Dr Pepper Sauce (mine has some mustard, ground ginger, diced onion and diced pineapple), using just enough that you can taste some sweetness. Your smoked salsa was perfect and put these tacos over the top.
I can’t wait to smoke another Pork Butt and try this with the Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce!
Selling it tragerverse! Hope you didn't have to work on that grill like a car…. I didn't mean any offense..just had to deal with that Texas T!! Love your videos
FYI you love your videos and seasoning. I make a boneless white meat spatchcock chicken with your honey hog on it. The boneless white meet comes from bearded butchers, and they show you how to debone it when raw. I do this and then add your honey hog to both sides leave it skin down for 250 for four hours and it’s delicious. I do the boneless white meat this way as when you cut it up to serve. It’s super easy keep up the great work be safe.
Hi how's it going? Have you tried too use cactus cooler chicken? I have tried it. Looks great by the way. Great job. Love your channel
I'd love to see any behind the scenes videos. How you film or a tour of your kitchen etc.
