A great peeler makes short work of prepping vegetables and fruit. The best are light and comfortable, with a sharp, maneuverable blade that peels neatly without waste and keeps its edge.

I have the OXO straight peeler and love it. Our last one we had for 10 years and I didn't realize how dull it was until I got the OXO. The only reason I bought it was because I read Ina Garten said that you should replace your peelers once a year so it dawned on me how long I had my other peeler. Night and day in peeling. I will be replacing at least every 18 months if not annually.
The overall winner? No, this is a paid advertisement for that "Y" shaped peeler, which is so uncomfortable and not ergonomic.
I think the green, triangular finger peeler may be for those who have stiff hands or reduced feeling in hands. I have carpal tunnel, & on a bad day I can't feel well enough to tell if it's about to change direction, slip, or any other tactile clues, which can lead to serious cuts if not caught soon enough. The finger one protects from that. I'd say rather than dismiss it, explain that & encourage the mfr to make it swivel a bit more to ensure it tackles curves even if we can't see it.
Ever tried to stuff a turkey w a completely numb hand & arm w/o spilling it everywhere?
Who uses a peeler on winter squash?
$5? Where?
Let me guess…Oxo
This is just an email harvester ad, beware going the the linked site.
Ceramic blade is the best. I've use mine for over ten years, it's still sharp like the first day.
I'm using a made in the USA Ecko straight peeler that is older than me. It's still sharp and works perfectly.
Love how thorough and honest these reviews are—makes kitchen shopping so much easier! Adding this peeler to my must-have list. Thanks, ATK!
As a leftie, thanks for taking into consideration hand dominance during your testing phase! Oftentimes us lefties are … left out!
Speaking of sharp peelers… maybe get one that has a built-in sharpener? I got one from DreamFarm it was ten bucks or so, and then went out and purchased a dozen to give away to friends (and low-puck Yankee Swaps, etc). It may not have an ergo handle, but it's sharp.
It's hard to get used to using a Y peeler when you've only used a straight peeler all your life! It's really awkward.
I'v had an "Original Swiss Peeler" with the aluminum frame for 15 years,..still don't need a different one.
I bought a stainless straight peeler from Sweden and love it. Bonus, the base of the handle is perfect for seeding cucumbers.
Kyocera Ceramic Y-peeler is what does it for me. I'm surprised that ceramic peelers aren't even mentioned, here.
Canadian here. I have both kinds plus a y peeler that juliennes. I hope I spell that correctly. It makes lovely curls of carrots for a salad.
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! I need some advice: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (wonder obey dial dash soon tank spike scout region undo zero such). How can I transfer them to Binance?
I'll stick to my OXO Good Grips Y peeler. More comfortable in large hands and doesn't rust when left wet. It gets sharpened with my ceramic honing rod. Sharp tools cut better.
Their $5 peeler is now a $10 peeler
I love you, Bridget.
“we’ve been using these for a decade”, perfect example of confirmation bias, and actually looks more uncomfortable to use, than the blade going the other way.
Kuhn Rikon makes some really nice tools❤
I love Oxo y-peelers. They’re effective, comfortable and stay sharp. My current one is close to 10 years old, and still sharp.
Um… your link goes to $10 for that peeler.
on the video everybody pulled away with the peeler. i pull towards me with the straight peeler and its really fast
