Grilled Kalamari | Grilled squid
Calamari is very common in restaurants, but it is often prepared with a fryer so it is breaded and crispy. In Greece Kalamari is typically grilled. It still tastes incredible, and it makes the whole dish lighter and healthier. This is how we served it at our Greek restaurant and how I serve it at home for my family. I know at first it may seem intimidating, but I promise it is much easier than you think.
The best way to cook Calamari is not to fried it . The best way is to Grill it 👍
grilled calamari is the prefferred way to cook it if you like awesome taste and healthy at the same time.
Kalamari is a very popular seafood that is served all over Greece. It is either fried or grilled and it is always served with fresh lemon, never marinara. Grilling kalamari seems intimidating but is actually quite simple. Serve it with lots of fresh lemon wedges and a drizzle of ladolemono sauce and it’s a wonderful appetizer for your family and friends.
Serves 4 – 6
Ingredients
2 lbs fresh squid cleaned
1 tsp sea salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 tsp paprika
¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
Lemon wedges for serving
Ladolemono Sauce
¾ cup olive oil
¼ cup lemon juice
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon dried oregano
Place your squid in a mixing bowl. Whisk the salt, pepper, paprika and olive oil together in a small bowl and pour over the squid, turning the squid over so it is completely coated.
Cover the bowl and allow the squid to marinate for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight.
Remove the squid from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before you want to cook it.
Bring a charcoal grill or gas grill to high heat.
Use tongs to place the kalamari on the grill and cook about 4-6 minutes per side, until completely cooked through. Remove the kalamari to a cutting board.
Cut the kalamari into rings about ½-inch wide to place on a serving platter.
Make the ladolemono sauce by whisking together the olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and oregano, drizzle it over the freshly grilled calamari and serve with fresh lemon wedges.

Gotta clean those rings after this prep 😂😂😂!!!
Greek food is one of the best in the world, from the land to the sea, it's all so good!!!!!
I dont like seafood but your presentation and textures are impeccable. God Bless.
I am so shocked. No garlic????
Fantastic recipe, thanks Nikki. I found that if you slice the tops (on one side) of the calamari, the marinade seeps in and grills even the middle portion. Slice, add capers to your lemon dressing and it was absolutely amazing!
Loving that fish plate
Squid should either be cooked in a minute or so or an hour. I think when she says, leave it on for 3 to 5 minutes on each side, you’re gonna be eating rubber.
Tendiam naadaaa
She didn’t eat any of it, don’t trust the recipe.
I absolutely hate when people emphasize the accent on only 1 word because she doesn't have an accent, when she says calamari I wanna jump through my phone and knock everything off her table
Then your supposed to order dinner ?
Mouth 🌊💦 watering!
Just made it with defrosted squid and it turned out wonderful. Thank you for the recipe!
Nice ❤❤❤
Cooked far too long. 3minutes each side as she says and you end up with tough, chewy squid.
Cook squid v quickly or long and slow (umido de calamaria).
Thought she said she was an expert
Excellent but please drop the attempt at an accent on the word 'calamari'
That looks so good
Nope, it’s all about the taste. Pretty things might taste bad, lol.
You inconsistently use your accent while saying Calamari. Just say it the way you want to and stop trying so hard, it’s a little cringe.
Other than that, everything else including the editing was awesome!
My grandfather said you are gorgeous!
My kind of babe
Such a better idea than just sprinkling sea salt when they're on the grill. Can't wait to try this recipe!
Maybe you should clean them first, lol
great, thank you from germany
A simple and a good recipe! But please do learn how to hold a knife properly.
I just can't listen to this woman's voice/accent. Nope, just can't do it.
Lemon/garlik olive oil-even better. Thank you.
Yummmm so healthy so delicious
The hardest part for me during cleaning calamari is getting the “pin” out. It’s like a cartilage spine that runs the length of the body.
The tentacles are indeed the best part!
lazy people get so called clean calamari…..i bet so much so crap inside what she is cooking and she didnt even check.. gross
I like the look of the recipe but I don’t understand the cooking time. She says “3 to 5 mins each side”. That means the total cook time is 6-10 mins which is the ‘rubber zone’. Everyone else recommends cooking it faster or else much longer. So how come this works? Anyone actually tried it?
I also love to make octopus that way.
My husband Spiros and I can’t wait to try this recipe 💙🇬🇷💙😊😋Thankyou
Thanks for sharing with us, I love Greek kitchen as well. Happy Easter to you. 🙏❤

I find the calamari is a little tough when it's grilled..
Bruh idk who told you paprika has a flavor
Ελληνικότατο
