What can I use instead of shortening?
My ONLY GO TO BREAD to make French Toast!💗💕💗💃🙏❄☃️🌲😁
I’m going to try this now fantastic. In Africa I notice they have sweet bread they add more sugar but same originator I guess the British
Thank you so much. It came out amazing! I used the 2 pound portion in one bread pan 13×5 and it took about 55mins to bake. First time making bread and this one will be made again for sure. Happy holidays 🎉❤
Came out perfect..finally I can make hard dough bread. I used bread flour instead
You are awesome 👌🏿. Thanks 🌹 very much. Spanish Town guy, living in Fl.
I can't wait to make your recipe for hard dough bread I have tried other recipes before and it just wasn't what I know hard dough bread to be. Could I by any chance use bread flour instead of ap flour
Very interested thanks for sharing this video
I thank you, with this recipe I've finally made a perfect bread. From taste to texture. I've tried so many times before.
Having my second attempt at this
My first with the milk inly was too milky so adding some water and 1 more oz of liquid
Trying this today….I don't think I kneaded it long enough before first proof, the 15 minutes wait confirmed it
Looks great! Can I substitute the lard?
I think the only thing I got correct on my final result was hard.
It was definitely a HARD Dough…. And so heavy… it never rise at all…. If there was a prize for hard, heavy dough – I think I would have won! And I don’t even know what I did wrong 😅…1st time making it – don’t know if I will again
24 oz? That is not right
I am going to try this recipe thank you. I am watching from Ethiopia 🇪🇹
I like all your recipe Nick
I love your channel, my wife and I subscribed and have been binging your videos. We love the history and knowledge you teach as well as the clear instructions you provide. We tried the harddough bread recipe and unfortunately it didn't rise. Do you think it was my yeast? We followed everything to the tee.
The best Hard Dough bread I ever had was from Caribbean Sunshine Bakery from Gun Hill Road in the Bronx. That bread was heavenly and perfectly dense, noticably sweet; the top was smooth, the smell sublime.
The loaf was easily a foot long and heavy,
You are an awesome teacher. Instructions so precisely clear. Ill definitely try this recipe 😋
omg as a jamaican chef here, this is a wonderful recipe! we are such amazing people 😂
Very nicely done!! Just what is what I wanted but can this be made in an Air Fryer??
This is so nostalgic. As a kid I love making cheese toast with thick harddough bread slices. Or if you don’t have a coco bread butter it and eat with patty
This was absolutely fantastic. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
Maaan… yuh don't know what yuh did when yuh tear di bread. 🤤
Childhood memories, stopping at Purity bakery on a fr-day evening, and buying warm, fresh bread for the 2-hour traffic to Spanish Town. Dat ting didn't last the drive home; Mom had to buy two in order for di res of di weeken' to si any. ☺
I just made two small loaves from this recipe! Thank you. It’s the best one yet. I’ll be making this regularly!
Just made this and it was EXCELLENT! I was skeptical because there wasnt much proofing time but it was spot on😊. Thank you!
A piece of that with some butter and a bowl of cornmeal porridge 😋😋
It's a pleasure listening to your instructions. Very precise and clear; so easy to understand and execute. Blessings 🙏🏿.
I made this bread twice yesterday and it was so good!!! Thank you 🙏🏾 ❤
Absolutely delicious! Also tried other recipes, but this is beyond compare- just like bread bought in Jamaica. Have to watch my waistline now😊. Spot on A*
My dough doesn't look as loose as yours after kneading. Mine is really tight. Can i increase the liquid? Or should I lesson the flour? Maybe my flour obsords more water?
I am about to try this recipe out for myself. Do you keep the water in the oven the whole time?
Excellent.
Thank you for the detailed recipe! My German grandmother used to make the same type of bread (except that more butter, and cream instead of milk, were used as fat sources instead of shortening). She called it ‚Gestreifter‘ which translates to ‚the striped one‘ due to stripes of dough forming when torn slowly. It was eaten on Sunday (with strawberry jam) during the summer months, probably as a way to preserve excess dairy since milk cows are more productive during the summer (- instead of preserving the bread from Caribbean humidity).
I've seen many Baker on YouTube, with different variation, but you recipe is the best, I will try it today
Gm, from Barbados(I am J'can) my first attempted of baking bread was this exact recipe……I failed miserably. I still kept on practicing(flour cheap) I recently came across cold fermenting using this exact recipe I cold ferment for 48hrs it was crazy good, texture and taste was on a different level. It taste like Mcpherson bread from the 70's😅
This is delicious and came out just right ❤
I went to Jamaica on vacation and fell in love with hard dough bread so just had to make it. I chose this recipe and instructions because everything was clear and precise. My bread turned out amazing will be making it again. Thank you
Brilliant instructions👊🏾 Thank you👍🏾 And the brief history of hardo bread was interesting 🎯🇬🇧
I usually do not post comments, but felt compelled to do so after completing your recipe. The changes I made were: 1) using water to replace the milk, 2) the first proof was 1 hour, and the second proof was 45 minutes. I am very impressed and happy with the end results. Excellent recipe.
The only problem I have with this video is that over two hours ago I jumped onto youtube to search for a good roast beef recipe but instead I watched almost all your videos from green seasoning and now I'm on to bread 😕. I'll finally get off YouTube after this video just so I can jump on Amazon to search for a good kitchen scale 😑.
