High blood pressure (hypertension) is so prevalent in the Black community primarily due to diet. Highly processed snack foods, junk foods, and traditional high-sodium soul food recipes are widely consumed in the Black community for various reasons – some economic, some habit/taste related. Those soul food recipes can be tweaked to make them healthier, however – reducing saturated fat and sodium (salt).
Eating primarily UNPROCESSED and minimally processed foods is absolutely critical.
