Nicole teaches us how to make homemade sweet vermouth, an aromatized fortified wine from Italy. You may find this ingredient in a Manhattan, an Americano, or a Negroni, or even on its own.

Antica Formula’s unmistakable taste is the result of a strictly controlled production process, prepared according to a recipe originally founded in 1786. Selected wines from Italian grapes are processed with herbs chosen from around the world for their excellence. These include vanilla beans from Madagascar, Papua New Guinea and Tahiti, precious saffron mainly from the plateau areas in Iran, and wormwood from the Alps of Piedmont. They are carefully extracted and refined for up to several months in a process that infuses and intensifies the flavours, to create the authentic taste of Antica Formula. http://www.carpano.com/en/prodotto/antica-formula-2/
I'm looking forward to trying this. One commenter mentioned using gin as the base spirit instead of vodka. I guess that would be an option, no? It does contain a lot of these botanicals. Just curious.
who's your worm guy?
I've made a couple batches of this. One of them won best drink at a 'bring your own cocktail' party. My pro tip; it's pretty good regardless, but getting decent wine (vs the cheap stuff) is worth it for this. The vodka doesn't matter as much, but I'm guessing the same rule applies there a little too.
Also, I've found a normal simple syrup with white sugar is better than with brown sugar; Brown sugar is just a little too rich, and makes the overall flavors a fair bit less subtle.
Gin + white wine + herbal tea = vermouth. Who knew?
Yeah im gonna buy all this weird shit.. Ok
Ok, that's a sweet vermouth. What about a dry?
These cocktail videos all scream to me "DON"T BUY THE BOOK!" This is all way too over done for making a cocktail. I don't want a cocktail 3 months from now – the approximate time it will take the gather all the strange ingredients, make the concoction, then remember why I went though all that hassle. Whoever thought this book/series was a good idea needs fired from ATK.
I'm sure I can just zip down to my local apothecary and find freshly dried hibiscus for tea and wormwood… better yet Ill just grown some next summer…
Or you can just go to the Liquor store and buy a bottle, which is my preferred method.
I love a Manhattan with Wild Turkey 101 Rye whiskey and really great maraschino cherries. I had been looking for a better quality vermouth than I can find in the liquor store, and I had given up until I found this video. I can’t wait to make this! Thank you so much.
Fell asleep.
I WANT THAT FLOOR LAMP!
i appreciate how you all went the extra camo mile
Tribuno Sweet: 5 minutes, $5 off the shelf
Seems like its taste. Check this as well. https://youtu.be/6KwRZY5DT_c
What’s the shelf life?
That drink looks like it should be so delicious and if I was a drinker I would try it.
Me: Oh wow looks good
Sees Ingredients
Me: Googles Sweet and Dry Vermouth
Can't wait to try my own spin on this. Vermouth is incredible. Really appreciate this one ATK 👍
I love vermouth. Sweet, tight video!
I'll never do this!
What a project! Where can you buy wormwood?
I'm not rich enough to afford all those ingredients.
Nice
Just like my grandma(PeaceBePonHer) used to make it.
I like to touch it up a wee bit with some orange blossoms, room temperature ice, and crushed Peanut M&Ms.
Wow ATK is now ATB American Test Bar.
Love these videos. Thanks
I am sure it is delicious, but it looks like a LOT of work for something you can buy, in a bottle, already made. They had me until they got to the step where you have to brew hibiscus tea.
Im modern. i think. just too much work. cooking and waiting over night. cant do it. pour vodka over something and drink. boom. done.
Her face at the end did not say "delicious" to me at all
oh wow amazing a bit different recipe love it thank you!! 🙂
