In this episode of In the Kitchen with Matt, I am switching it up a bit and going to show you how to make a healthy smoothie. I drink this smoothie quite a bit for breakfast, it is really easy to make and this recipe is super easy. Why healthy smoothies? Because I can’t eat cinnamon rolls and waffles and bacon every morning can I. Or can I? No I can’t, haha. So I combine healthy smoothies with exercise, to stay in shape, so it allows me to eat all my treats, sweets, fattening foods, without it hurting me too much. š Let’s get started!

Hello and welcome back to In the Kitchen with Matt, I am your host Matt Taylor. Today I am going to show you how to make a healthy smoothie. Itās super easy itās super yummy. I love treats, I love crepes, I love cinnamon rolls, I love bacon and eggs and hash browns, for breakfast, but I canāt eat that stuff all the time. I am in relatively good shape and the reason that I am is because I do eat healthy quite a bit, for breakfast and lunch and for dinner even. But because I do eat healthy and exercise quite a bit, I have that luxury of being able to eat my chocolate, my bacon, and my cinnamon rolls, once in awhile, and it is not going to effect me too much. Anyway I love this little recipe I just came up with it myself, I use it almost everyday for breakfast, it is really easy to do if I can do it you can do it, letās get started. All right for smoothies in general you really want to get a fairly decent blender. The best blenders on the market are either the blendtec or the Vitamix. There is going to be some are arguments between the two camps, so to speak of which one is better, most likely the Vitamix, they are pretty expensive but I will put some links down below, in case you want to pick those up, they are kind of the king, kings of the blender market. This one I have is just an Oster, I think I paid around 40 bucks, and it has worked, pretty well for me it is not quite as good obviously. So for this recipe what I do is I start with mixed berries, you can get your berries yourself, like I do, and I just freeze them, or you can buy a pack of frozen mixed berries at the supermarket. Add those first here to our blender. And then I am going to do a big handful of spinach. One of the only ways I like to eat spinach, is either raw in a salad, or in a blender, I am not a huge fan of cooked spinach. But if it is in recipes and pastas and stuff like that, it is fine. And then what I am going to do is I am going to add one banana, and then about a tablespoon of Flaxseed. This is milled flaxseed. You can leave this out if you want but it adds a little bit of extra nutrition. And then orange juice I am going to do about a cup of orange juice. And my blender here has cups and liters written on it, which is cool. So I am going to start with that and see where it gets us. Now if it is too thick I am not going to add any more orange juice, I am going to add just water to thin it up, or instead of orange juice I will also use almond milk. All right lets go ahead and do the ice crush mode right now. As suspected it is a little too thick, and now letās add a little bit of water, a couple ounces, and that should get us where we want to be.

Hi Matt well I don't have a Blend Tech or a Vita Mix but I do have a Ninja Blender and it even came with 2 smoothie cups to just blend individual smoothies. I really did enjoy this recipe. I make mine very similar to yours but I add plain yogurt the way you mentioned and vanilla almond milk and even a little kale. āŗ
If you drink as many smoothies as you say, then you really need to get a Vita mix or blend tech.
My husband and I start every day with a smoothie and buying a Vita mix was the best investment we ever made! It will grind even the hardest fruit or vegetable into a smooth liquid in just a few seconds. I love smoothies and I love my Vita mix. My favorite model is the new āfits under the counterā model. Iāve been using it every day for about six months, and like I said it is the best investment in our health that we have ever made.
FYI, Costco often has a good deal on Vita mix blenderās.
Not much on smoothies but if I were going to drink one this would be one I would want to try. Looks good Matt!
Matt, try Kefir instead of o.j.
We don't get berries like u guys get there. We get strawberries though.
Rockin as usualš
MMMMMMmmmm….. Looks perfect! : )
Looks really nice. Bet it tastes nice too… I also can eat and drink that which I like, altho I have a somewhat wishy washy appetite. But, I like to run just for the sheer pleasure of it. Gonna make this recipe, Matt, because it really looks delicious. Spinach tho, is an awesome, and required ingredient in Bubble and Squeak. Definitely! I love Bubble and Squeak, for breakfast… š
However, and I gotta say this; the best blender came with my Kenwood Mixer as an accessory attachment; the whole shebang cost me about 300 quid and some change about 10 years ago. Still going well, so you can keep your blender which needed more fluids to operate properly. Last sentence, was just gunning… I'm sure yours is very useful. š
