Namkeen Gosht is a flavorful and savory meat
dish popular in Pakistani and Indian cuisines. Here’s a basic recipe to guide you through making it:
### Ingredients
– 1 kg mutton or beef (cut into pieces)
– 2 large onions (finely sliced)
– 4-5 green chilies (slit)
– 1 cup yogurt
– 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
– 1 teaspoon black pepper powder
– 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
– 1 teaspoon coriander powder
– Salt to taste
– 1/2 cup oil or ghee
– Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)
– Lemon wedges (optional)
### Instructions
1. **Heat Oil**: In a large pot, heat the oil or ghee over medium heat.
2. **Cook Onions**: Add the sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
3. **Add Spices**: Add the ginger-garlic paste and cook for a few minutes until the raw smell disappears.
4. **Add Meat**: Add the mutton or beef pieces to the pot and cook until the meat changes color.
5. **Spice It Up**: Add the cumin seeds, black pepper powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well to coat the meat with the spices.
6. **Add Yogurt**: Stir in the yogurt and mix thoroughly. Cook until the yogurt is well incorporated with the meat and spices.
7. **Cook Covered**: Cover the pot with a lid and let it cook on low heat. Allow the meat to cook in its own juices. If needed, you can add a little water to prevent burning. Cook until the meat is tender.
8. **Green Chilies**: Once the meat is almost done, add the slit green chilies and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes.
9. **Garnish and Serve**: Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with naan, roti, or rice. You can also serve with lemon wedges for an extra tangy flavor.
Enjoy your homemade Namkeen Gosht!
