Looks great ❤ Could I use a 13×9 Pyrex or a rectangular cake pan? My non-stick pans are cheap & the handle would most likely melt if I put it in the oven. I don’t have access to cast iron either
I tried this recipe and two issues popped up. 1. 6 eggs is too much, 3-4 should be sufficient. 2. I needed more time in the oven since the Dutch Baby only started to pop in the last 2 minutes of the end time. Other than that, a very good recipe.
i love dutch baby!
Today we’re going to make the beloved German Pancake. But we’re going to add a little twist. We’re going to add several new superfluous ingredients, use twice the normal amount of eggs, and cook it in a completely opposite method, time and temperature scheme. Ready?
These clowns make this 10x harder than it has to be…
Wow really nice! may I ask what size pan you used?
Yummy!used to get at Bickford's Family Restaurant in Connecticut before they went out of business!
Great recipe, imoressive yet easy to do. I haven't had a fail.
Cold oven was a game changer for me. Best topping thought is fresh lemon and powdered sugar together. (weird but amazing)
I did everything this recipe asked for but I added 1-2 tablespoons of lemon…the pancake became very thick and dense after 30 minutes…was the lemon the reason? no idea…now I have to remake without the added lemon to see…any ideas?
looks interesting
TOO MANY EGGS,
Definitely trying this one.
Should the eggs and milk be at room temp?
Anyone know what size skillet that is?
How about being more accurate grams instead of cups
I want someone to make it for me. I'm too lazy to make it myself.
Very nice…baking this tomorrow. Sharing
Looks amazing! But too much sugar in the batter,i think.
I make a berry compote instead of apple. Blueberry or raspberry make a great compote for german pancake.
Dan is on my shortlist of male role models in the kitchen.
At first I was blown away by all the eggs…. As I watched, I realized that I just had to make this. It looked divine and not overly complicated to make. Meaning, even I could make it. Thank you.
What?!?!
I'd never heard of a popover (except as a loose layer of clothing to popover an outfit). Google says it's basically a yorkshire pudding. I've seen dutch baby pancakes here in Australia but they're generally served from the back of a van at marketstalls and events. You get about ten 1.5" tiny pancakes with masses of sugar and lemon and no other discernible characteristics other than 'fried' (and overpriced).
Here we go Again perfect recipe, beautiful food , and just Dear Dan can make!
I love America's Test Kitchen in every way, print or video, recipe or product review. All except the practice of pretending that one cook is teaching another cook how to cook. Lame. Are these folks afraid to talk to the camera?

No sugar in our German pancakes. You sweet on thtm
Tried it – would NOT RECOMMEND. The apples on top were way under-whelming. I really liked this ONE-PAN recipe with caramelized apples on the BOTTOM.
Cook at 450°for 18-20 mins, serve with dusting of POWDERED SUGAR, dollop of CREME FRAISHE, and a LEMON WEDGE. Mmm!
GERMAN APPLE PANCAKE
(Jim Foreman)
https://youtu.be/jxkyNQ8kQoQ
1 1/3 cup flour
3 tbl sugar
1 tbl lemon zest
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 cups milk
6 eggs
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
3 tbl butter
This is the best German Pancake recipe I have ever tried, and I've tried sooooo many over the last ten years. I use an 8" cast iron pan since I'm alone for breakfast so I cut the amounts of ingredients by 3 to fit the pan. I've never had a German Pancake rise and not fall but this one stood tall, even after cooling. It is nice to have the hints about bringing the milk and eggs to room temperature and…no preheating of the pan! I'm sold, this recipe is a keeper and I can ignore all others.
This is not even german wtf
Yum. Gotta try this one!
Dan is a perfect husband
Good recipe!! Very Well explained!! Thanks!! ♡ D
Prefer the other version with Chris K.

THATS WONDERFUL ,,, LOVE YOUZZZZZ GUYS I WISH I COULD COOK THE STUFF ,, BUT I'LL JUST WATCH THANKS
Maybe I should be a teacher at this school since this gentleman has no clue what he's doing !!!! You caramelize the apples 1st.. while they're caramelizing , THEN you make the batter.. THEN you pour the batter into the apples & put the entire thing into a pre-heated 425 degree oven for 15-20 mins. And do not use lemon zest. 🤣🤣🤣 And this is supposed to be a professional ? A friggen cold oven can take up to 25 mins just to preheat.. 🤣🤣🤣 What a jackoff. Go back to school & try a different career kid.. Cooking isn't the job for you.
