Nice recipe, thanks.
No melted butter? Melted, just barely browned butter gives excellent flavor, much better than oil. Save the oil for the pan.
It would be really nice to have the ingredients in the description so I didn’t have to go through it so many times just to get the ingredients
@America's Test Kitchen Can you replace milk with buttermilk?and if so how much do I use?
Wicked flavaful!
This has been my go to recipe and is always a crowd pleaser.

Great video!
Thank you for sharing.
EXACTLY THE WAY JULIA MAKES IT
Ohh Why don't we ever get to see more of Dan here rather than the hunchback happy merchant mean looking guy or that grotesque Ginger Check? The weird been stressed cat lady and the wooden oriental need to hit the road is well. Can I want even get started on that fat Tinkerbell
I have tried dozens of youtube pancake recipes. This is the BEST recipe I have tried. It makes absolutely the best real pancakes. I put a little Cardamom powder in my batter.
I made this recipe and it turned out very yummy. Check it out on my channel 🙂
I Made this today they were Thick and Fluffy and really light. 5🌟
Not impressed
A cup of flour is actually 4.5 ounces. AKT has been measuring flour the wrong way. The dip and scoop method they use packs more flour into the measuring cup, giving you more flour than you need. Always use the spoon and level method.
I should have known that there was something wrong when I would get splashed by hot oil while flipping pancakes…
Perfect pancakes. Used buttermilk instead of whole milk. 👌🏽
It's actually quite good. I thought it would have been too much baking powder…it was fine. I will do the dry ingredients as pre-mix and store in freezer or pantry. 🙂
These 🥞 are DIVINE!

I could listen to a full-length podcast in his soothing Boston accent.
I like Fanny Fahmah, bettah….
Looks good, but that batter looks just a little too thick. I've never had to spread my batter with a spoon once I poured the mixture onto the pan.
I love this. My gramps used to make them from scratch but didn't have a recipe. I love this!
Best pancake recipe yet, way better than the buzzfeed tasty version, so fluffy
I added a tablespoon of yogurt to the milk for extra fluff
I tried this but sadly… They just weren't very good ☹️
I am kind of a pancake fiend. They have always had a special place in my heart. My dad would make them on Christmas morning or the occasional weekend. He made them big with nice crispy edges.
I'll confess I probably had a heat problem when cooking them. I had the oil on medium low heat for what seemed like forever and it wasn't enough. I eventually had to switch to medium high.
The sacrificial pancake didn't taste right. I thought maybe it absorbed too much oil. I tried butter instead. (Dad cooked them in butter, I think) but that didn't help either.
I think it's the baking soda that they raved about.
Anyway, I think I might stick with Bisquick. Sorry!
PANCAKES FROM SCRATCH THAT ARE BETTER THAN BOX MIX They always say, set your goals high.Vegetable oil? What?Milk? What?I guess, if all that matters is that they are a little bit better than what comes in a box. No wonder they use Vanilla. Instead of just adding it for something extra, these need it.Butter. Or even better, hot bacon grease that comes with the bacon you will be eating with the pancakes. Buttermilk. Holy cow, do they own stock in baking powder, Only half of that is needed. And then adjust the amounts of the others, for tasty beautifully golden brown hotcakes. Or you can just look on a carton of Kemps Buttermilk.
Great recipe! Btw, I say Flay-vah-ful too. My adult children make fun of my accent (New Yawk) all the time. They sometimes offer to make cah-fee. I said, if it’s not CAW-fee, I won’t drink it!
Is egg necessary?
Wow. Just tried these and they were a big hit. Light, fluffy, and lots of flavor. One of the keys was to use a wide spatula when slowly incorporating the wet and dry ingredients. I'm going to premix batches of the dry mix for quick pancakes during the week. Highly recommend.
Who else came here after having a fail with Bittman's NYT recipe?
Yummy
Very well Done nice technique and the explanation formidable two THUMBS ☝ ☝
I tried to make pancake once using some chef fancy recipe with complicated ingredients, and it failed. This is my 2nd attempt making pancake in my life. This recipe WORKS!! And with just ingredients we always have in the pantry. It is so fluffy even better than IHOP or Dennys. And super easy i cant believe it. Thank uuu.
@ATK – how many pancakes this recipe will make?
can't remember the last time I procured a box of pancake mix. Three flours, plus steel cut or whole oats, no salt, no sugar or oil, applesauce instead. YUM! Same idea, just modified for our dietary needs 😀 GREAT SHARE, ATK.
Better yet: instead of sugar, add maple syrup to the batter, and use a bit less milk!
ruined with corn syrup…
maple syrup or riot
