  1. Great, easy recipe. the only thing I would do differently is get a nice crust on the meat in a cast iron skillet before putting it in the slow cooker. Browning beef first always ADDS flavor.

  2. This is "barbecued beef" only in the limited sense that it's flavored with barbecue sauce. It's certainly not beef that's been barbecued. There's no shame in calling this cooking technique what it essentially is: smothering – as practiced in Creole and Cajun cuisine. So just call it something like "barbecue-sauce-smothered beef" and then no one's being deceived.

  3. If one does not like the fat all you have to do is the old southern secret, take out your drippings and put in a big bowl, then place in the freezer, the fat will float to the top in no time and you can skim it right out and add the drippings right back to the pot. but fat is flavor so keep that in mind.
