  1. Thank you! I never thought about adding corn starch to my compotes. I would use flavorless gelatin occasionally, or nothing at all.

    One little tip for anyone who reads this post: try the same recipe but use some spices, too. It could be cardamom, clove, all spice or star anise, or all of them together. The compote then has a beautiful combination of warmth flavors and aromas plus the freshness of the basil and a bit of tartness from the lemon juice.

  2. Looks fabulous, except I don't quite get how the addition of basil would taste good? Once removed from the mixture (before serving), what flavor profile does basil give to the compote? (I guess I should just try it, lol.)

  3. at a buffet, i personally sneak corndogs into the buffet so others can enjoy them. I hide 6 corndogs in my jacket pockets. it then, is a joy for me to see other patrons of the establishment eat my corndogs thinking they were part of the bufff
