The fava beans inside their tough outer pod are covered with a waxy translucent sheath that should be removed after shelling (although edible, the sheath can be fibrous—and sometimes bitter—unless from a very young bean). Once the sheath is peeled off, the beans are ready to be enjoyed.

What is a CSA box?
The cook did a great job, I like her way and voice .
Just Wow
Nice video, but it could have been shorter/faster.
Unfortunately, after having watched “The Silence of The Lambs”, I fear that I’ll never be able to disassociate fava beans from Hannibal Lecter’s interesting dining habits.
😁😁👍🌺
How many obligatory chianti comments so far?
The problem is actually finding fresh fava beans.
Problem is the amount of energy used, and waste generated just getting those few beans ready, would just about cover raising a pound of steak.
Thank you. This was actually quite demystifying 👍
Helpful Tip: When shocking small ingredients in an ice bath like these fava beans or green peas, etcetera, place them in a sieve first and then plunge that into the ice bath so that you don't have to seperate the ingredients from the ice cubes once you're ready to seperate them. It will save you time in the long run.
If you're trying to reduce waste, then you could dry the fava beans using a salad spinner instead of paper towels.
I'd imagine that children might enjoy popping the beans out of their membrane; kind of like popping bubble wrap…
Thanks for the great tutorial Christie!!! You are one of my favorite cooks on both shows with your sweet and fun personality and I'm always happy to see what else you have come up!!!
Love ya girlie!!! ❤️
I will never cook fava beans. Ever. I just clicked because I thought there’d be a truckload of idiots making silence of the lambs jokes. I was not disappointed.
I like all your presentations. I see Christie taking over ATK.
Silence of the lambs ruined far a rams for me.
How about liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti? Just a thought, …Dr L 😉
No liver and Chianti?
Way to much work for a handful of beans
Where's the census taker?
I'll stick with ones in the frozen veggie section. They are already prepared; all you have to do is cook them and eat them.
In the UK they are call broad beans.
First time growing Windsor fava beans this year currently two and a half feet tall 15 ft Row Zone 9B Central Florida hope they're good as they look whatever?
And nice chianti 😅😉

Everyone knows you prepare fava beans with the liver of someone that annoys you and a nice Chianti <slurping sounds>.
