Adam Ried shows Bridget Lancaster the pros and cons of different grill gloves made of silicone, suede, and aramids, each providing different degrees of heat protection and comfort.

First world problems
Welding gloves. Steiner specifically.
The unlined silicone gloves are dangerous. Silicone can withstand high temps, but is not a very good insulator. So it gets hot quickly relative to something like cotton. Then,if you want to take off the (hot) gloves, your hands stick to the inside of the gloves.
Silicone is great, but only with a liner
Looking forward to the Cornish pasties!
I smoke a lot of meat on my pellet smoker, everything from Boston butts for pulled port to the Thanksgiving turkey, my lined silicon gloves have been wonderful! I can easily just pick up the meat with them.
How do they perform when wet?
❤❤❤❤❤
I bought a pair like the woven style after I got my pizza oven. Absolutely critical for that. I also use it when I'm baking bread, because I have to reach into a ripping-hot dutch oven. The ones I got are said to be able to handle some ridiculous figure like 1,000F. That's just how hot the gloves can get without sustaining damage. Naturally, heat does come through, it's just a matter of how long that takes. For radiant and convection heat, they stand up pretty well. But on direct contact with hot surfaces, the clock is ticking.
I will never buy anything off Amazon from a company name that's just a bunch of random letters. So many knock-off companies that only last a few months until they get a cease and desist letter.
I use fryer gloves. Replaceable liners, cleanable exterior, best investment I ever made.

I find that silicone hand protection has a tendency to slip much too easily, and it's difficult to feel what it is you are trying to grasp with those hands. So I stay away from silicone because I've got to have the control over the food that I am moving, or whatever it is I'm trying to do.
I found the gloves on Amazon but don't know what size ATK had in the video. Edit – Length-wise
The welding gloves also come in handy for moving things in a fireplace, wood stove, campfire, or just pouring out a chimney of lit charcoal.

Would the rankings still be the same if you used them with a griddle?
next "how to select the best spoon" please
Got those orange gloves about six or so years ago for handling pork butts and shredding the meat. They're obsolete now for that task (clumsy feeling) b/c now serious bbq guys are now using a 7-9mm latex glove over a cotton knit glove that allows safe handling of hot food off the grill or smoker but not good for hot metal, welding gloves for that. All available at harbor freight. Cheers!
You CAN get welding gloves that use smooth leather instead of swade leather
those are easier to wipe clean
Everyone always says welding gloves and sure. They're cheap and I use them, but they're bulky and awkward to use tool/utensils with. I need some with the protection of welding gloves with a more snug fit so I can use those tongs better.
Can't stand those silicone gloves. Your users don't like the welding gloves cause you can keep them prestine looking? I would say something but don't want to be tagged.
glad ya guys said welding gloves, i made a comment before i watched. was happy to see people are smart at least with it
Joni Ernst, makes me think of grilling all the Republican Party for a Bar-B-Q epically at Xmas, Santa got fired.
Thanks! 😀
