After you make the first two cuts to form the first slice of pie, make a third cut to form the second slice. Then slide the first piece out; the extra cut allows for more movement within the pie, making it easier to slide out the first piece in a tidy, intact manner.
Also, be sure you’re using a good pie server. It should be sharp enough to cut cleanly and agile enough to neatly slide under a slice to lift it and put it on the plate in one perfect piece.
America’s Test Kitchen is a real 2,500 square foot test kitchen located just outside of Boston that is home to more than three dozen full-time cooks and product testers. Our mission is simple: to develop the absolute best recipes for all of your favorite foods. To do this, we test each recipe 30, 40, sometimes as many as 70 times, until we arrive at the combination of ingredients, technique, temperature, cooking time, and equipment that yields the best, most-foolproof recipe.
Each week, the cast of America’s Test Kitchen brings the recipes, testings, and tastings from Cook’s Illustrated magazine to life on our public television series. With more than 2 million viewers per episode, we are the most-watched cooking show on public television.
More than 1.3 million home cooks rely on Cook’s Illustrated and Cook’s Country magazines to provide trusted recipes that work, honest ratings of equipment and supermarket ingredients, and kitchen tips.

And don't use your best knife to cut against the glass pie plate. 😛
It's like the news: When there's nothing worth reporting on; shit gets the front row. It's not just this video; it's also about the mashed potatoes, gravy, etc. What do smart cooks do? – They scoff and have better ideas of their own. Smart in this application implies herd mentality.
I always cut the whole thing up before serving and never have had issues. I guess that is why? lol Seriously though, why only cut one slice at a time and serve? They'll be uneven.
"in a tidy, intact manner" crack lolololol
great advice though d(^_^)b
